Twin turbos sound good in theory but unless you have a V8 or V6 engine where the engine bay lends it self to twins a single does the job just fine for less money, less complexity and less wieght.

Twin sequential turbos such as the 2JZGTE runs stock are okay for a daily driver but the manifolding and valves and junk are all heavy and complex and once you start fiddling around winding up the boost it gets hard to tune them.  If you go to aftermarket computer it is very hard to keep all of that junk working so most people rip it all off and bolt a GT35/40, T04Z or GT42 on there.

Lets say you want 600 hp.  You can buy two 300 hp turbos and half of your engine will feed each one.  So we have a 4L engine with 2L working towards spooling up each 300hp turbo.  Or just use the whole 4L to spool up the single 600hp turbo not much difference really.

A lot of people go twins then have all sorts of twist and turns in the inlet and exhaust pipes to make them fit.  They have dump pipe running right next to the compressor housing heating it up etc.  all of these little things lead to poor efficiency.
