Sounds good mate. MIght have some go. The microtech goes well in the corty's. I run that type too. Try a diff ratio of 3.5 to start, the go down as you make more power, it will be a quick car, thats for sure
Title: Sounds Sweet
Post by: MarkZE on November 28, 2007, 05:26:29 PM
TE351.  That setup sounds like it has all the right bits.

I would stick with the 2.92 or 3.23 ratio at the lowest.

3.5 is too low unless you can rev the engine to 6000rpm or have very tall tyres.

Hi guys. ok my corty is as follows:

engine: turbo 250 xflow
tranny: was a c4 soon to be powerglide
diff:   9" with 3.00:1 - 28.5 x 9 x 15
turbo: turbonetics t70( running on 21psi)
performance: ran 10.10@132mph 3 years ago and makes 401rwhp
Title: Glide!
Post by: MarkZE on November 30, 2007, 02:53:40 PM
I am interested to know why you went to a glide?

A few experienced racers I have spoken too who have experimented with both TH400 and Powerglides found they always went back to the three speed box.

I will be interested to see what happens to your 60ft times with the taller first geared glide.

I know Joe Gauci is running a glide and has run 1.32 60ft times but so far I have run 1.34 60ft with my C4 and quite a bit less power.

How long before you head to the track in search of 9's?
Title: Who has a turbo Cortina?
Post by: corty74 on November 30, 2007, 10:28:22 PM
hi mark, hows it going mate. my c4 was a great box but had no transbrake in it. I still managed a 1.47 60ft time with it.i got a few prices for getting a transbrake for it and didnt think it was worth it.so my engine builder and i had a talk to freddy(from Pro Trans in sydney) and we decided to go with glide. freddy built joe gauci's glide so we confident he would build me a box that would handle my current and future horsepower.my c4 could handle my current engine horsepower but once i get my new turbo and start pumping some serious boost into the engine i didnt think the c4 would hang around for to long. i cant wait to give the glide a go because last time i raced i was only leaving the line on 9psi and now i should be leaving at 15-25 psi .yeah so only time will tell.fingers crossed lol.

Hey, ummm... well i have a Cortina in the making. Turbo'd ofcourse. I don't know what power it will have but i have a rough estimation on power. Don't know if it is a good estimation but they reckon 25psi 700+rwhp. But as i said, that's just a rough estimation, i don't believe it though.

Turbo ESP, I am interested to know what you did with the stroked crank on your engine?  did you increase or decrease the stroke?

Guys like Joe Gauci and Errol Quartermaine were using the 200 cranks in theri engines.  They were doing this so they had more clearance between the rods and the cam so they didn;t have to notch the camshaft for clearance.  They were able to rev the engine a lot harder and make more power than they could with the 250.

Going longer stroke will be interesting.  It will help with spool but will be a torque monster!  Going to need a serious converter to hold behind that with a GT42.

WidlTC.  It will be interesting to see how the 4L goes.  500 rwkw on gas sounds impressive.

What are they doing for camshafts and rocker gear in 4L engines making that sort of power?

I know a guy who does solid billet rockers for them and also does billet pulley sets to slow down the water pump and power steering pumps if you need them.
Title: Who has a turbo Cortina?
Post by: WILDTC on November 03, 2008, 01:47:19 PM
im unsure of the exact specs of the motor as im just gonna leave it all up to jason to do, as for the water pump/power steering pump thats all gonna get the bin as im going to have absolutly no room between front of motor and radiater! im just going to run an electric waterpump mounted under the guard as im running a front mount on the tc/td there is bugger all room to fit everything behind the grill so im going to have to move the engine back about 4 inches for everything to fit so that means massaging the fire wall a fair bit(i have the 4 cyl engine bay) but itll all be worth it to pack that much power i suppose....!
Title: Who has a turbo Cortina?
Post by: BigNorm on November 03, 2008, 02:06:24 PM
i was reading your thing thinking there is plenty of room between the front of the engne and the radiator but then read you're doing it with a 4cyl engine bay. a lot of mucking around but it will be worth it.

i've got john's old twin turbo manifold i'm not gonna use if you're interested.
Title: Who has a turbo Cortina?
Post by: WILDTC on November 04, 2008, 12:11:26 PM
why arent you going to use the twin manifold? wouldve looked tuff seeing a couple of gt30s in the engine bay of a cortina! ive decided to stick with a single turbo as ive already got a gt42r on hold ive actually used pics of your engine bay for an example of how much mucking around i have ahead of me!
ive worked out that the back of the rocker cover will be almost in line with the cowl vent so itll sit back a fair bit, as for the wiper motor it looks like you have rotated yours to clear the rocker cover where as im going to have to move mine under the dash ill just have to start cutting and slam the motor in and fit everything around it...
heres a link of my car on you tube with the FJ20 still in it the FJ20 is for sale with everything to fit into tc/td cortina with everything if anyone is intrested...

Post by: BigNorm on November 04, 2008, 04:51:52 PM
yep, i rotated the wiper motor - hardest part of that is making the wipers still park at the bottom of thier stroke. u got alot of mucking around to do starting with a 4cyl firewall. my engine fits neatly between the radiator support and the firewall. maybe you could consider transplanting the centre section/tunnel from a 6?   gonna be a shame either way to chop up your body.
Title: Who has a turbo Cortina?
Post by: WILDTC on November 05, 2008, 09:45:31 AM
yeah it will be ashame to start cutting up the firewall but once its painted again it will be worth it! it will give me a chance to make the engine bay look semetrical on both sides which will be a challenge on its own

the crank im using is a ef full counterweight unit that has been offset gound and im using 6 inch chev rods and chev pistons had to grind parts of the block for the H beam rods to clear but in was only minor grinding

Turbo ESP,

Did you go longer or shorter with the stroke?  I assume longer.  Just interesting becuase there are a few guys around who swear buy the 200 cranks.

Also who is doing the roller cam for you?  From what I can tell Ivan Tighe Engineering is the only company around who can make the steel billets for the 250 roller cam now.
