Hi everyone out there, just a quick question for anyones opinion on options for cooling my car down, currently have a mild TE 250 alloy head and it has the big old metal fan direct drive off the water pump. Just looking to either clutch it or remove it and do thermos? all opinions welcome.
Cheers. :D

Ditch the metal fan! I used a clutch fan off a xf before, it was a tight fit.
I like thermo ,I'm using a 14" thermo on mine, on the front of the radiator , wasent enough room behind(not with the thermo I used, I only have 25mm from the back of radiator to pullie , my thermos wider then that) Also had to cut a little of the body at the bottom to make it fit.
I also fit a over flow off of a Gemini, at least I think I took it off of a Gemini , its been a wile. I was having trouble keeping it cool befour i installed the over flow ,especially when idling , but the over flow seemed to help

strangely enough the engine does a pretty good job. i fitted a viscous fan from an xf to a td i used to have but the tin handguard across the top of the radiator needs to be removed and the fan really works best with a shroud which i didnt have. now i run a 16inch thermo fan engine side and it does the job just fine.

Hay norm, do you use a over flow too?
Once I used a metal, cleveland, clutch style fan, and it was only just off of the radiator, it was ok.till I gave it a boot full. The blades must of flexed and they hit the radiator. Not good Hahah

yeah i've got an aftermarket tank hanging on the side of my radiator. nothing special about it. i had a metal blade fan take a shaving off my radiator with a windsor cortina i used to have. when the revs would go up the blades sucked forward and just took the paint off, didnt leak but.

Thanks guys, I think I'll go the thermo on the front, was thinking that but thought I'd put it past a some of you guys as I knew there would be plenty of experiences to be told.
Cheers :D

only problem i found with placing a fan forward of the radiator is that you need to cut into quite an integral part of the body to make a decent sized fan fit.

For the 14" I had to cut about 100mm from memory, didn't think the bit I cut was to much of a concern, but if my fan fit, I would of definitely mounted it engine side,,
plus there's more surface area on the radiator without body parts in the way, so you could go bigger then 14". (As norm said ;) )

(Just wanted to put a picture on the new site)
I bought my thermo when the motor was not installed ,so I didn't know how much room i Had to play with, and at the time didn't even cross my mind.
Also if you do go on front of radiator , the thermo I have ,the wires were colour coded, assuming it was mounted engine side this would of been ok, but being on the front of the radiator it was drawing the air from the engine bay, not the cool, air from outside. I had to reverse the wires, so it blew through the radiator and not draw through it.
