I recently phoned the guys at Stub Tech in Victoria to see if they made or would make dropped stub axles for Cortinas. They don't at the moment and have no plans to in the future. Demand would be the thing to get them interested. The manager also said , that if he could get a Cortina stub axle to look at, he could tell whether or not he might be able to modify something from the current production range to suit. He said he has done it before and says that it is the best way to proceed. He also asked if the later model Cortinas are the same stub axle as the TC/TD. I didn't know, so if anyone does know please PM me. Also if anyone has a spare stub axle from a TC/TD, how much for it and to mail it to Sydney so I can send it to Stub Tech for their appraisal. Regards Shane C (fmd)

i've spoken to stub tech about the very same thing many years ago and got told pretty much the same thing. however they didnt mention about modifying stub axles back then so might be on a winner with that. at the time they didnt need a sample spindle, just a heap of photos. i got the impression it was too hard but he did say they would need interest in at least a thousand pairs for them to consider adding them to thier range. in the end i found it easier to use modified control arms so i can use one of thier other drop spindles.
spare stub axles i dont have as i can sell them as fast as i get them to the kit car ppl.

would make it easy to fit big(tall) engines under the bonnet too,you can lift the body off the k member to get sump clearence.
and still have some suspension
-
What would be the benefits of fitting drop axles?
The cortys I've had have been pretty low and haven't had problems with suspension bottoming out in the front, more with the rear.
I like my cars level or slightly lower in the rear.
I'm guessing better wheel alignment?
Camber adjustment being a problem when low.

gives you lowered look with full suspension travel

It could be a good idea , if you push to have them made/ if they will make them, to get the stub axle dimensions from the te/f and use them on the tc/d, then a easy upgrade to vented disk could be made if wanting to keep four stud, or cheeper to fit a 5 stud conversion. (under the impression its cheeper to fit 5 stud to te ? Anyone ?)

get them made with au or ba spindle and caliper mount asif anyone buying a dropped spindle for a corty would want stock brakes or 4 stud even

:spank i had 5 stud, went back to 4 stud, have no interest in drop axles for a corty though, I must be backwards.
