Title: Cortina 28 spline axles
Post by: TE302W on August 30, 2007, 06:18:45 PM
Well, after breaking another set of 25 spline axles, I thought it's time to get something done.
I sat down with my local Diff/axle bloke and came up with the following.

28 spline US 9 inch billet axles  5 stud (used) modified to suit B/W housing. Fitted with new bearings. Brake drum re-drilled  to 5 stud.

So, all i got to do now is remove my 25 spline spool, put in a 28 spline spool, and just slip the new axles in. NO mods to diff housing or brakes.

Total cost - $550
I was looking at 9 inch diffs, commodore axles. skyline axles, and hilux diffs.
This is so much easier.
I haven't put wheels on yet, but will let you knoe if I need pre or post AU rims.

Diff back in car and all together.
The wash up.
I have ended up with.
28 spline billet axles. Falcon 5 stud. Using original housing, brakes and brake drums.
3.9 gears
28 spline mini spool

Total cost
Axles $500 (not $550) -Made for housing
Mini spool $80
3.9 gears and diff center from skyline $67. (Jolly rodger wreakers)

Sold my 25 spool and center $50
Sold my 3.5 gears. $90
TOTAL = $507

Very happy. Heaps cheaper than a 9 inch and 1/4 the price.
