Hi hoping someone can help I have recently purchased a 1978 TE cortina it has a 84da 250 alloy head engine. Head is a C1 unfortunately it has a crack through to the water gallery. I have acquired a C2 head but the local engine rebuilder says I will be unable to use it as I will have issues with detonation due to the increase in compression. I have roughly measured the piston dish crudely with a syringe and they hold roughly 18mls of water. Markings on piston RA41 030. I have seen on a couple of post that these heads are interchangeable so what I want to know is do I go through the expense of having this head rebuilt or is the rebuider correct and should I continue looking for another C1 head.
Engine runs.
Redline manifold.
500cfm Holley
headers.
supposed steel crank but have not had it apart to verify
C1 head has had work on intake ports.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Here's some info on head differences. http://www.ftw.com.au/Automotive/Tech_Info/Ford_Crossflow_6_Alloy_Head_Information.html (http://www.ftw.com.au/Automotive/Tech_Info/Ford_Crossflow_6_Alloy_Head_Information.html)
it will raise compression but as long as it not super high comp now ( wouldn't think so if its a 18 CC piston. ) as norm said, bolt it on , you could always comp test with the c1, bolt the c2 on and test again, then you will know before it gets rebuilt.

Thanks for your response to my question. I gave the engine a compression test with the C1 head when I brought it and it averaged ~180 with one at 165 due to what turned out to be a broken valve spring. The car is not going to be a daily driver more a weekend car with the odd track day in mind.
