its in heaps better condition than the last couple that ive owned... there was no trans in it but there was a supposedly reconditioned trans in the boot that is all bolted in now, also has 15" focus wheels on it now and i got rid of the rice burner cannon that was on the back. I had it all ready for a test drive last night but the damn accelerator cable decided to snap :banghead hopefully my local wrecker has one for me...
-
where you pick that up? overall look solid.
-
It was sitting at bargain steel centre in burton... Found it on gumtree advertised for 450. The only rust I've found so far is behind the rear wheel arches and a spot that was patched up (poorly) on the floor. I noticed the carpet on the passenger side is a little damp though.. Ill have to take the heater box out and see if there's a hole through the fire wall :-\:
-
you must of snapped it up quick I didn't notice it in gumtree
-
I reckon it was on there for atleast a week
-
l must of been low on phone credit when it was on gumtree.
-
Ya snooze ya lose buddy :P: i troll that shit lol
-
Great pickup. I saw it also! They are coming hard to find now. What's your plans for it?
-
Nothing big at this stage... I'm on a bit of a tight budget. I'm just gonna slowly clean it up and drive it to work until the cash flow picks up again.
-
I think I may have asked this before but I can't find the old post so here goes....
If I bolt an xe/xf injection inlet to the old girl will the heater box be in the way? I know I would have to run new fuel lines and use a efi fuel pump and surge tank etc. and I was thinking of using an aftermarket ecu.. I just don't want to have to take out the heater box. Anyone done the conversion?
-
not sure about the runners hitting the heater box but looking at its location I would have to say yes. You maybe able to cut the heater box and re- shape it with fiberglass, but the heater core < think thats what its called, may have to be moved too.
Has the motor been changed to a XE / xf one? thought your te would of came out with cast head, plus the alloy head motors in the cortys probably didn't have the cut outs for the injectors, being the early alloy motors.
-
Yea it's got the alloy head but its a 77 model so I thought it may b an xf motor... Gonna take the inlet off and have a look on the weekend.
-
may be able to tell without taking off the manifold. if it has a number on it between the first and second inlet ports, say c1 c2 e1 e1 etc it will have the injector cut outs. if its blank it may or may not.
-
Cheers man. Turns out I may have bigger problems. I'm guessing the reason the last trans shit itself is because the radiator is leaking coolant into the trans cooler lines.. I put fresh fluid in that is now like strawberry milk lol I don't know wether it will be cheaper to keep draining it and refilling it till it comes good or just bite the bullet and get another trans.. To make it even more convenient I'm not certain that the trans I bolted in is actually reconditioned or what lmao I love cars :banghead
-
I had this happen to my BA, common fault with the BA. kept putting it off to bypass the radiator then it happen. I was straight onto it though, removed the cooler lines from the radiator, didn't drain the trans, went to u pull it got a after market cooler off a eb, good clean out and fitted it. my trans was fine but the BA doesn't have a dipstick so couldn't see how much water got into the trans.
my theory was the water would only get into the trans after the car is turned off. engine running, the pressure in the cooler lines will force the trans fluid into the radiator but when the car is turned off the pressure in the radiator will build up and force the water into the trans.
I was told that if any water gets into the trans the clutches soak up the water and separate the friction material from the metal backing. but I'm sure some water would off got into mine.
-
There's no trans fluid in my radiator but there's definately water in the trans. Might get some cheap shit fluid to put through it... I was thinking ill run the cooler lines into a tub and start it up to pump it through while topping it up through the dipstick until it comes out red.. I just hope the trans survives it...
-
Drained the sump and pumped through 4 ltrs this arvo... This is gonna take a fair bit of fluid I think lmao the milkshakes r on me
-
the milkshakes r on me
did they bring any boys to the yard.
-
Lol
-
how did you go pumping out the trans...I just did the Transbraked C4 on my car and poured 15 litres of Transmax Z through to flush it then another 5 to fill it...pretty costly exercise at $350 for 20 litres..
-
Still going mate lol 12ltrs so far.. I've just been buying one or two 4ltr bottles of atf33 per week at $27 a peice. Can't wait to see some clean red stuff come out lol ill put through another 4ltrs tomorrow. it's getting darker slowly.. God I hope the trans hasn't carked it after all this
-
20 ltrs down... It's coming out red now but not quite transparent, Might fill it up next week and take it for a little spin then drain it again and refill it. Hope I never have to do this again lol if the trans is all good ill chuck some new tyres on, register it then punish it for playing up lol
-
Got some velour seats today for $20 delivered...
They're a little bit rough but the foam is fine and would be good for a re trim eventually... Un like the drivers seat that was in it lol
(http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af214/davius1987/image-4.jpg)
-
old seats had see better days lol. were thay the seats on gumtree?
-
Yea mate, thought u might have seen them lol
-
Well she's registered now and shifting well :D took it for a little cruise today.... Steerings a bit dicky and the brakes are spongey but that's tomorrow's mission.. new tyres on Monday and a bit of a service.. Should be good!
-
So that didn't last long lol went for a cruise today and she's developed a hell of a vibration... At first it only happened when I turned and accelerated hard but now it's pretty much constant and the trans started to slip a bit when it happens. I'm guessing the trans is fucked after all that fluid flushing... I checked the x member, tail shaft and flywheel bolts and they're nice and tight.. Only thing I haven't checked is the bell housing bolts.. There's plenty of trans fluid in it too. Any ideas would be appreciated.
-
possibly the kick down is to loose, think once they start to shutter it's too late.
dose it do it when its cold?
-
The kick down cable? If its loose would make the car vibrate like shit? By memory I think it is pretty loose... Pretty sure it was kicking back when I flattened it tho.
-
yeh I had one years ago that I think was due to kick down not set up properly, I took a bw40 from a xf and fit it in place of a bw35 in a xr. I just whipped up a Bracket out of sheet metal and tech screws to mount the kick down. It didn't hold the best and the trans would start to shutter/vibrate especially as it changed gears.
-
Sounds pretty similar man.. So u reckon she may be too far gone? I've just lined up a good 2nd hand trans for $100.. Might pick it up tomorrow...
-
no harm in adjusting it and see how it goes.
-
I tightened the shit out of the kick down cable but it was still shuddering and slipping a little so I went and picked up another trans.. It's from a td 6cyl but its still a Borg Warner 35. should fit but the kick down cable looks a little different and the cooler lines are in a slightly different spot. Should be able to sort it out without too much drama. On the bright side the fluid looks pretty good and apparently it shifts really well so fingers crossed its all good!
-
Yea trans #2 seems to be a dud.. Does anyone know if a 4ltr and trans from a e series falcon would go in with my engine mounts, sump, oil pickup, tail shaft and x member? And would my inlet bolt to it? I'd rather not go efi for now so I don't have to worry about an ecu and fuel pump and lines etc...
I doubt it would be that easy but I thought id throw it out there just incase.
-
not without a heap of modification. if u dont wanna run an ecu u'll have to go ea or early eb with a 3spd auto and the later use an ecu to control the auto. all up it'll probably be cheaper and quicker to rebuild one of your bw35's.
-
Cheers man, the only reason I asked is because my mate has a couple donor cars laying around. Time to go get a quote at the trans shop I reckon.
