Does anyone now how to remove the drivers side wiper spindle on a tc cortina. I know it has some sort of clip but I don't know how to remove it or what it looks like as I can't see it.

its quite a simple thingto do when you know how it works. almost impossible to explain in words though. hopefully when u see the underside of it and how it works then it will make sense.
there is a locking tab(gold bit) holding the arm onto the spindle which is held in place by the arm staying down. if you lift the wiper blade arm up away from the glass it then allows you to turn the locking plate(arrow). then its all the way out of the way u can release the arm and the spring will hold the locking tab out of the way. then its just a matter of wiggle wiggle and the arm lifts off the spindle.

I know how to remove the arm from the spindle already but I need to actually remove the drivers side spindle itself. I have a new spindle but don't know what clip holds it to the wiper mechanism.

I've removed the cover from inside of the engine bay to get to it and the bolt on the outside that holds it to the cowl but can't see what clip holds it in place to the rod on the back.
