Title: Rain channel / sill removal
Post by: HarryDoogan on January 16, 2016, 04:58:17 PM
Hi guys, I've decided to tidy up my cortina a bit and I've started to remove the rust from the will above the side windows... Only to discover it's totally rusted through in a few places.
I feel like I don't have many options.
Has anyone ever removed these sills all together? Apart from not diverting the water from the roof is there any other downside to removing them?

The only downside is that water will drop on your head if its raining and you exit the car. Otherwise, its not going to cause you any issues. Where are you at, as I should be able to repair the rust for you. If not, have a look through my thread to see how I shaved mine off and made new custom ones. Its on the FordAustraliaforums though.

Hey mate,

Im doing tidy up in a year or two once i finish a engine conversion. I think taking it out will look awesome. If you do it i'd really like to see some photo's of it?

This is only a idea but do you think it would be possible to heat up some lead and tip it into the rain channels? If the rust holes are too big block them with something from underneath.
Could end up just making a big mess to clean up though.

i deleted the gutters off one car and hated it. the lines across the tops of the doors need the gutters to hide the poor quality panel aligning done by ford back in the day.

i actually put gutters back onto another cortina that had them deleted.
