hey everyone.just after some ideas. i just bought a xf falcon which im going to take the engine out to do up.its a 250 crossflow carby.im not sure whether to use the alloy head or not??? because i heard they are prone to cracking. also what are some things i can do or get done to the engine to gain more horsepower.im looking to spend a couple of grand on it so hopefully i can get some good power increase.cheers for the help.

you're right, the alloy heads are prone to cracking but only if u overheat the engine but then the cast iron heads crack too if you get them hot. the alloy heads are a much better idea as they are lighter and flow better than a cast iron from the start.
what are the plans for it? daily driver, weekender, does economy factor in?

i only drive it on sunny days.the rest of the time it sits in the shed.i just want some more power.not too fussed about fuel economy because when i do drive it i give it a bit of the go pedal anyway.im not sure what to do to it.im just what wondering what upgrades i should really focus on for a tad more ummph!!

tara is right the alloy head is so much better the c1 or c2 head from an xf on a flowbench flo over 300hp so even with a mild crow cam say a 465 holley and a decent set of extractors a stock 250 goes like a rocket but all depends on application finding a decent engine builder is hard when it comes to the 250 as they are not the most popular (but we love them)but there is some info around is it going turbs or stayin na figure that out then u can put an idea together if you can get them duralite pistons were always good or acl race sereis both are good 4 holding at least 340hp and a shitload of nos(just in case u ever want to muck round with it)grout your block a good speed shop should be able to supply have your rods prepped and crank a mellings high volume oil pump will feed good pressure maybe o-ring the block and use a copper head gasket if ur planning a turbo250 once again these come in different thicknesses so first figure out compression ratio(stock turbs nos ect)then u can purchase parts crow cams and your local motor traders will be able to help with most parts and 4 anything else a local speed shop(grout, balancer)also think bout a high volume sump may need to have one made also if you plan to run roller rockers u will need to shim up the rocker cover anything you need i have part numbers for
