Title: No wastegate
Post by: XMAN on August 12, 2008, 08:20:39 PM
Im thinking of what would happen to a turbo system with no wastegate , only relying on a bov to stop overboosting , what would be the effect under full throttle and part throttle gear changing applications? any thoughts cheers.

a bov wont stop overboosting. it wont open under boost as it has equal pressure on both sides of it. as soon as you get off the herbs there is a low pressure in the inlet manifold, high pressure in the inlet causing the bov to open and ahh-choo.

to answer your question, it will keep boosting until the turbo maxes out or the engine goes pop. it's not going to make much of a difference to drivability otherwise.

so would it be possible to mount a wastegate in the supply pipe before the intercooler to stop overboosting or maybe a modded bov and have it control boost inlet pressure.

You could use a blow off valve without the pressure line attached and set it to open at a certain spring pressure.
