Title: New member ...project started ...could use some good ideas
Post by: MK3builder on January 02, 2009, 05:20:17 PM
So im back from uni ...(still doing it) and im looking for some project car ...was thinking working from scratch using a 302 windsor as the base ....checked regulations and problems with rego
went back inside glanced at the pile of rubbish covering a car (its been there for the last 11 years) ...liked the shape and brushed piles of dead leaves and shit off to reveal a straight looking ford cortina mkIII 1975 2L straight 4
well it looks in a sorry state ...but better than some ive seen ...
under the hood was 80% of the motor and no gearbox .....still missing the rocker cover and the distruiber but i found the dual throat weber carbie and the inlet manafold up in the shed.. so the project is on the start

my thoughts are twin cannon exhaustes with extractors
painted in midnight blue with heaps of chrome ....polish the rocker cover the airfilture cover ...might go airpod instead
planning on restoring thr motor to original with a 5 speed racing gearbox ...when i find that part
deep dish 16 inch chromes is what im also thinking

any ideas or comments welcome ...ill add pictures soon

Hi, welcome to the website.
Starting a project can always be overwhelming especially at the begining.
Before you spend a cent, write down all your objectives on paper, then put an approximate price to complete each part.
Then scratch out the obviously silly ones that wont happen and contemplte whats still possible.
Its good to see you are sticking with the 2litre motor, too many people are sticking in a windsor and now have a car same as a lot of others whom went down the same road.
The 2 litre has many options to make it fast, includes the sierra motor, or adding a turbo or supercharger.

First get started to see if the body work is really worth continuing with. Look for rust or bad areas under the floor around the wheel arches and in around the heater box.
