Title: Low mileage Cortina
Post by: Drewdog on December 02, 2009, 11:31:40 PM
Hello all at fordcortina.com, first of all great site, I own a mark 2 Escort RS2000 and that has been my main intereat for the past 13 years, however over the easter holidays of '09 I stumbled upon a TD Cortina that I couldn't pass up, she's a 74 TD with a 200ci six backed by a factory optioned four speed manual, finished in burnt orange with a chamois interior and a sun protection pack. It currently reads 28000kms on the speedo and is almost perfect down to the original crossplys and quality control stickers. It looks and drives like new. Lol, I took it to a local car show recently and hadn't even got out of the car when I was confronted by a "nay sayer" questioning the accuracy of the odometer, haha ignorant people, thats why I don't normally do these events. I'm going to start a gallery for the old girl so bare with my and there'll be some pics up by the weekend. I've always wanted a TD Six and am really enjoying ownership finally, although I haven't forgotten about my RS.............

Hey there, yeah thats the one, I've stuck a couple of pics in the gallery these are my "glam pics" taken behind a local tyre shop, you'd never pick it, theres normally stacks of tyres in front of the wall except on the weekends, having fun with the car, I can put my arm out the window and do ten kays under the speed limit and everyone waves at it, the escort you peer out of the cage and fear defect notices. I tried to get the original rego number but the licencing centre weren't to interested in helping so I went with the 'retro' reprint series, but I reckon that suits it just fine.......

cheers braddy, sounds like they would've made a great pair, a friend had a red with brown interior 2 litre as his first car, we used to call it 'The Jaffa' we changed our first head gasket on that one and had a go at porting the head, haha we had no idea but it all worked and it got him to tafe no worries. I'm collecting bits to go with it at the moment, already had an orange dragster push bike, got the sales brochures/workshop manuals now and found a great retro airpot thermos, in yep, orange to go with it, I'm a bit like a colour blind bower bird at the moment.............................

Hey Scottd, car sounds great, good to hear theres more nice examples out there 178k is not much for the mighty 200ci, plenty of life in it yet, yeah in perth north of river, which side are you on? Maybe you've seen it at all ford day or driving around up here.....  I've been told it was in the auto trader before I brought it and Tarahymen said he'd seen it in a caryard too(cheers for those parts mate) the guy I got it off was in the trade but didn't say much else. Would love to hear other sightings to help find out a bit more of its history......

hasnt done 3000ks in the last 10 years
its a great car
my grampar bought it off the show room floor
then my Granma  drove it till 1988
then my Dad had till 2005
he did all the bushes in it
shocks springs
the car realy drives like it is a new modern car stiff as all bugery!
i remember going in it when i was around 6-7 years old
with my granma driving it'
has got absolute minimal rust minor spot in the chassis rail
and the back driver side door is got rust in the corner below the outer dorr handle  ( i think it may have been a crapy repair at some time)

im collecting all the parts to fix what it needs then it will get a full repsray soon

Small world, lived in wanneroo for a while, you'd have seen me driving around for sure, don't think I've spotted yours, sounds sweet, good luck collecting the bits for it.....
Theres a burgundy one with big wheels that gets parked at the showgrounds every so often.......
Has yours got a sticker on the radiator shroud? mine has had one at some point and not sure if its a factory decal or a later service sticker.....cheers

Do you do the galaxy drive-ins in Kingsley? Great night out for the cars but at the moment I'm trying to get in during the day for some pics with a photographer, want any shots of your car done if I can get them in?...........

Have you heard the Kingsley legend of the ghost in the lake?
Near the exit of the drivein there is an old tree stump, that as your head lights sweep it , looks like a figure standing there. Story goes a young bloke took his girlfriend to the movies in his sandman panel van, but when her father found out he hacked him up and buried him in the bush near the lake..... and thats his ghost looking back at the drivein......
Haha, thats the story anyway, we used to go and dress it up before the movies for a laugh.........
