Title: No2 on a Xflow
Post by: BLUEWHITE on March 12, 2010, 07:16:12 PM
I was thinking of using a 2 barrel plate under the holly carby, you can change the jets 50hp to 150hp. Do you think just try and see what happens?

NO2, I'm guessing you mean N2O (Nitrous Oxide)
I have been fitting kits on all sort of cars since 1988. I manufacturerd my own kits in UK called 'Rocket Power' (now developed into HighPower Nitrous Systems) in the early 90's for road registered vehicles I have fitted a few kits on cars since being in Australia several on the x-flow 6.
Things to take into account when fitting a nitrous kit.
Fuel supply is number 1. If fuel supply is not sufficient you WILL melt something no matter what power jets you have. Is the engine in good condition. Any weak parts will be found and brake with extra power you get with nitrous oxide. If your x-flow 6 is in good condition, you have a fuel pump that can supply the extra fuel needed, back off the timimg 1.5 degrees per 50hp and start at 50hp you should be ok to go to 75hp then 100hp on a standard engine. Take it a step at a time listen very carefully for detination. I have put 150hp into x-flow 6 with NGK 7 plugs MSD ignition Holley Blue fuel pump set at 6.5 psi premuim unleaded with octane booster taking 4 degrees out the timing with no problems.
Happy to answer any questions on Nitrous injestion

Thanks for the info,
I have a spare electric holly fuel pump. The motor has been rebuilt recently so it should be ok. How do I retard the timing, I ve got electronic ingition not the standard points style distributor.

Also did you have any problems with your clutch and gear box? I ve got a celica 5 speed with a toyota clutch plate and ford housing.

You should be able to simply turn the distributor to retard the ignition timing. The ones I fitted had an auto box and were fine. All the mechaincal parts will be under more stress with more power. As far as clutch is concerned it may be the tyres that fry before the clutch but that depends on what tyres you're using and how hard you are with the clutch. I'm affraid it's a 'suck it and see'. Take it a step at a time, get it working perfect on 50hp before you go to 75hp. Another thing to know is that as far as perforamance is concerned you will get just about double the performance gain from Nitrous than NA tuning of the same power level. Nitrous set at 75hp will give you 75hp the instant you switch it on regardless of rpm. For instance if you have 250hp at 5000rpm a 75 shot will give you 30% power increase at peak but at say 2500pm you may have only 75hp the nitrous will give 100% more power! With testing I've done in past the 75hp shot of Nitrous is worth 150hp of extra power from other types of tuning when it comes to performance gains.

I'll set it up and see how it goes.
Another question, what centers fit the cortina diff? Its still got the single spinner.
Does anyone know a place in perth to get diff centers and things like that?

Did you ever get that Nitrous kit on and working?

I haven't finished the car yet, still got some elec things to finish, and put the rest of the interior back in. hopefully have it done in couple of weeks.
