Hey Matty,
The radiator support panel is different, the 4cyl radiator sits a lot closer towards the engine, i dont think its a big drama and can be easily cut away with a grinder to allow the bigger radiator sitting closer to the grill. The gearbox cross member is in a different spot and i think had a different way of mounting so doesnt directly swap over. Welding of some studs or new mounts is required. These are only minor problems and can be easily overcome. Can''t remember about the clutch cable, im assuming you will need both clutch and throttle cables to suit the 6cyl. The diff had a different connection to the tail shaft, but a 6cyl diff would be a better idea anyway.

Hi Matty,
I have recently done a conversion on my TE cortina, from a 4cyl to a 6 cyl. There are a few problems you will encounter.
* Firstly as already mentioned, you need to remove the skirts both sides of the radiator. They are spot welded on, so the easiest way is to drill them out, and grind away whats left.
* Next problem you will find is the engine mounts, you need to find the 6cyl cortina ones, the XE/XF Falcon ones will fit, but require you to re-drill one of the holes on the side that mounts to the block, as they differ marginally.
* The transmission mount is in the wrong place, and will need to be moved. Go to a wrecker and look at a 6cyl one, you will know what i mean. However, you can still use the crossmember. Manual rear pair of holes both sides, the auto uses the front pair, as it is shorter than a manual box.

Not the mention the engineering requirements that need to be met (RTA rules). Hope that doesnt put you off.

Hopefully I was of some help to you.

be careful with how you make the new crossmember, it can tear the floor.

Hi there,
You have a bit of work ahead of you mate. try and see if you can find a 6 cyl shell.
If you cant then:
* need to obviously remove the old 4cyl engine and gearbox.
* Begin with removing the 4cyl transmission mounts, this is done by unpicking the spot welds around the existing one.
* You also will need to cut out the radiator webbing, that sits both sides of the 4cyl radiator support panel, once again done by unpicking the spot welds.
* engine mounts are interchangable of an XF, they will bolt a 6cyl into a cortina engine bay with no drama.
* transmission mounts need to be fabricated, and bolted to the tarnsmission, jack it up under the car, and tack weld the mounts in the correct place. Ensuring that the transmission is in the right place, and is central under the floor.
* you will need to replace the front springs to the 6cyl ones, and also woundnt hurt to swap the rears also. (just as a precaution.)

The rest is interchangable, be sure if your in doubt to contact a mechanic, to assist you.

Good luck
