up to and inc the rm is just where and when it was made and then after th rm it is the serial number so no there is not way to identify it. If it says its a 2ltr xflow then why do you think its not?

I have no doubt its a 2lt x-flow just wanted 2 know what year it was n what it was in originally as Im plannin to do my first full rebuild on it. After lookinjg round on the net i reckon its a 74 escort motor, the mod was done 93 and the guy i got it off had it in his shed the last 6 yrs ill put some pics up after the weekend

Mk2 Cortinas only came out with Kent engines never Pintos as they were not made then. Early Mk2s had 1500's and from 68 1/2 1300 and 1600. Carbie is on the drivers side for a Kent and the pas side for a Pinto (2L)

Sounds like a bit of a mystery, the escort pinto's here in oz had a prefix of CK42 from 79 onwards unless its from a mark 1 RS(very rare car) They did use a pinto in the US but that was a totally different engine with a capacity of 2.3 litres, many people have been caught ordering 'pinto' parts from the US only to find they're not right, does the sump have a part number on it? I'm not sure but I think the Escort one has to be changed for the mk2 cortina, in the TE to use the escort sump however the cortina one won't fit into the escorts...... Good luck with it........Drew

Iv only just started muckn round with cars recently and just thought that the engine no might also tell you the model car it was originally in i think the RM is a 74 motor or is the 79 the year, not that it matters just curious.
Is a 2lt pinto just a 2lt crossflow?
the guy I brought it of didnt do the mods and didnt seem to know much about what had been done to it, he told me he had a pile of paperwork n reciepts for it that were in his other car when it got stolen and burnt a few years ago it has an engine mod/seating compliance sticker under the hood which says fitment of 2 litre engine

Cheers for the pic, yes its a two litre pinto, they're all crossflows, exhaust and inlet on different sides. The pinto bit is just the engines group name. eg the 1600 that would normally be there is a "kent" engine, the three litre in the capri's are called an "essex", named after towns in the UK.  Hope that helps....................

Hey can anyone tell me if the escort mk2s came out with the pinto, reason being if I buy a manual for an escort mk2 77-81 (says covering 1.6 & 2.0 motors) will it help me?
Cheers
