G'day guys,

New to the forum and don't actually own a cortina . . . yet.  I am 17 from perth still looking for my first car hopefully a 250xflow.

I have around 3 Grand to spend on it and am considering this:

http://perth.gumtree.com.au/c-Cars-Vehicles-Motorbikes-Parts-cars-TC-XLE-1973-CORTINA-W0QQAdIdZ264483434

Just a few things what the difference between standard and xle models?

Say I owned the above tc xle I would like to be able to run 12's down the quarter and maybe one day 11's.  But as you know I am limited on funds so I was thinking just a turbo onto the 250 or should I save and drop a v8 in it?  Maybe just a falcon 4L out of an el or something?

For a turbo I would think I would need:
-Turbo manifold
-Exhaust
-Intercooler and piping
-Rebuild?

Anyone know of cost for a turbo conversion roughly (as cheap as possible) or opinions on making 12's for under 2G.

Please be honest guys because I am pretty sure I am dreaming here so let me know if I am  :banghead:

Cheers again,
Mitch
ps.If you know of a 250xflow for sale in perth let me know

hey welcome.  turbo is the lazy and cheapest way to run 11's. there are a few na cortinas running in the 11's but they're extreme and have had bucketloads of cash thrown at them. you'll get into the 12's for less than 2 grand but i doubt u could do it reliably.

that car in maddington looks alright in the ad and is cheap for what it is. its only 5 minutes away so i was gonna have a look. i tried ringing the number and the phone was always off or him on it so i sent the owner a few text messages but couldnt get a response so i didnt bother after that.

if u get stuck with that one, i've got a td xle sedan which i want $1000 for. it starts, runs, drives and is complete but has been neglected and needs work to make it a goodo car again.

Yeh I have only managed to speak to him once and he said it was stolen 3 year years ago hence the ignition barrel/wiring mess in the picture and also said the rust is quite bad.  Is your td licensed and do you have any pics/more info like a thread stating whats wrong with it.

Cheers

its not an unfinished project or a work in progress by any means so nah theres not a thread on it or pics getting around. its a car i bought to wreck for parts but its in too good condition to strip so i was gonna fix it up, relicense it and sell it for more.
so far its on my "to-do" list and i havent touched it yet. it sits in my backyard waiting for me to get time. i havent been right over it but from what i do know to get it licensed it needs a couple bits of rust in the sills and drivers door sorting out, a brake master cylinder and a driver's window reg. if you want it showroom then its gonna need a full bumper to bumper resto. its a 35+ year old car in original condition.

its not advertised for sale anywhere, i only mentioned it cos u were looking for one.
