Fuse Box help needed urgently
« on: May 11, 2012, 02:40:00 PM »

Hi all, i anyone in the forums an auto electrician or someone who has replaced their Cortina fuse box with a blade type fuse box? I want to put in a blade fuse box but the wiring diagram doesn't show what the 3 small wires that hang off the side of the Cortina fuse box are for, does anyone know.
Also the last fuse, number 8 has only one wire feed and all the others have 2 each, presumably in and out.
On number 1 fuse there is a 6-7mm yellow wire which can't be the feed for the fuse above it because that fuse is only for the luggage and interior lamps which are small amperage bulbs.Any help and/or photos would be a great help in getting this conversion done. Then I can get on with the other wiring in the car without blowing those puny ceramic fuses. The other day I tried to repalce one that had blown without disconnecting the battery and it burnt a hole in the tip of my finger which then hurt like buggery for days.If they're not doing that they're falling out or stuffing up altogether. They are definitely the worst fuse ever made, so I'm determined to get rid of them. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi FMD,
Yes you are correct, the fuse block on the cortina and the fuse style always were a problem, the small prongs on the fuse box side are for accessories that were an option but not allowed for in the main harness.
If i was replacing the fuse system, i would basically cut out 1 fuse at a time, splice, solder then heatshrink the new wires running to where ever you are going to put the new blade fuse box, cut and terminate/solder to the new fuse box.
For gods sake dont put the new blade box in the same place as the original unit, drivers side foot well, glovebox etc, many options there.
