Ode to your daily drive....
« on: October 09, 2012, 01:13:23 AM »

Summers coming and after a whole weekend of driving my Cortina in the sun I got in my rather plain Daihatsu (daihatspew) applause this morning ready for a day back at the grindstone. A few km's into our everyday trip, one we've been doing for 4 years now, she made a bad rattle, then a knock, then a clunk... at 320000kms on the clock it was all over in a blink of an eye and in the middle lane of the freeway, spew!!!
Anyone else drive a bunky to work? Park the Cortina in the garage while the newbie sits outside? Is the missus' car better than what you drive everyday?......

I drive a ticford au fairmont as my daily while I'm building my te but don't worry there was a time when everything I owned and drove was a bunky.

i know the story too well. i was changing bunkies like my jocks. i was always running out of fuel(i was 27ish when i got my first ever working fuel guage), breaking down, sweating my box off cos it didnt have a/c or they be getting stolen off my front lawn. only good thing about all that is i never had finance. one day after a semi-decent bunkie got knicked and stripped about 500metres from my house i thought fuck it, got a loan and bought a car that is too hard for the locals to pinch. that was several years ago and now i drive a bf xr8 uterus as my work daily, have numerous cortinas on the go and a 1955 f100 for my other weekender. never looked back.

Checked to see if the daihaspew was worth anything in parts, turns out no, picked up a whole one for $100 and swapped the engine. In the mean time I started looking for something decent, ended up with a BA wagon on gas, you're right Norm, heaps better than the bunky approach.... Better still I have a whole set of Fords now, big to small, Falcon, Cortina and Escort, stoked ;D:
