Restored TE seeking Engine Upgrade
« on: November 15, 2007, 10:52:55 PM »

Hi Guys,

I have converted a 4cyl TE into a stock 6 with a 4 speed and I am now thinking of a full running gear re-fit and looking for some ideas.

I have been considering an EF/EL XR6 or AU VCT with a 5speed and keeping it NA... Is there an alternative to the T5 BW box since the fixed shift position won't suit the hole in the floor. What other problems will I have to overcome besides the obvious; sump, engine mounts, heater box etc.

I am impressed with the XW-XB front brake upgrade and was wondering what you would do to get a disc rear end.

Any help would be great.

Cheers

With the EF/EL/AU conversion you will have an issue with the starter motor as its on the opposite side to what a xflow is.  So you will need to massage the firewall slightly to gain clearance.  For the xflow you can go the supra.celica 5 speed but not sure if you can with the 4litre.  If it is wont be cheap.  For the sump you cant use a xflow one on a 4litre as the 4litre is slightly wider.  What you need to do is combine both the xflow and 4litre sump.  Engine mounts the xflow will work, well if its in a TE/TF not sure about earlier corties.

HI CortUp.
I used a EB diff from the wreckers and cut off the tube end with the caliper mounting brackets on them, then measured the same distance on the corty diff and cutt those ends off to. Then i just rewelded the EB tube ends onto the corty diff housing. I then had me axles upgraded to 28 spline whilst I were at it., System workes EXTREMELY WELL
As for the 4.0L conversion, I have done this also, there are many problems to encounter, and fix, but its worth it. Cant help you with the manula side of things. I used a manualised C series auto, and fitted my custom bellhousing. So if you decide to take this path just ask away, and i will try to help you.

Good luck
