opinion on colour choice for TD Corty
« on: June 04, 2012, 09:52:44 PM »

After taking a good hard look at the old paint job on the TD Corty, I've decided it really needs to be resprayed. Current colour is cream, but not an original Cortina code. So am thinking about respraying it VHT Bright Red, and would appreciate knowing what others think about this colour before I go ahead!

When you spray with 2 pac after you spray the basecoat or colour you need to add clear which gives it the shine.  With spraying 2 pac you need the basecoat or colour, hardener and thinners.  Also its very important that the temperature is right because if its to cold the paint wont dry, which is a mistake I made once.  Also you need to take it slow, probably wait 10 - 15 minutes between coats, take it easy or you will end up with runs.  Iam by no means an expert on spray painting but have done it a few times.   Best bet is to talk to someone who does spray painting for a living and can give you some pointers if you can.   Maybe even get some practice in before you start on the car.   As for colour I personally think red is overdone and can fade badly.   As for what colour you use is up to yourself in the end but I would stick to a standard colour, something that can easily be made up and doesnt need to be colour matched.   I would stay away from pearls and all that sorta stuff.   Also remember that the darker the colour is the harder it is to keep clean.   I had a TE Cortina that was burgandy and a pain to keep clean.   Lighter the colour the easier it is to keep clean.

u adjust the mixture ratios of the paint and drying times according to the ambient temp anyway. all paints have a data sheet which will tell you the hows, whys and what not to do's of thier product.  dont make the mistake of assuming she'll be right cos it wont be and provided u follow thier instructions u cant fuck up the drying. its not as scary as rob makes it out to be. do a bit of reading, youtube and have a crack, its the only way to learn.

I think you should go with the pressure pack spray job but instead of buying enough of one colour to cover the car, you buy the whole rack at the nearest cheap as chips and give a nice thick coat of each over various bits of the car til you have used up the lot. And buy the whole rack I mean also the blackboard paint. :P

ps: not sure if italics... lol

Mat black is the hardest to pull off in all seriousness. If not done right, it just looks cheap and shit.

i did black betty the first time with a roller and it came out mint. mind you i used a foam roller cos i'd hate to get a poor finish of a lambswool roller. beauty of this technique is that if u'r careful u dont have to mask anything.
