« on: April 01, 2008, 09:27:44 PM »

i know theres a lot of v8 and turbo cortys but what i havnt seen yet is a efi windsor in a corty out of a e series or au i guess ?

is it to hard or just not as good as the norm?

does anyone know ?

is there someone here that has done this conversion?

apart from the efi stuff i imagine it would be similar to putting a normal 302 windsor in?

It has been done before. And i'm gonna be doing it soon aswell. Already got an EB xr8 motor. The guy i got the motor from also had it in a te but never finished it. used same mounts and sump etc as u would for any other windsor. he said that the intake manifold hit the bonnet tho. My guess would be ppl just can't be bothered with the wiring headache.

I have done it hopefully will be registered in the next week or so.

I had to get different mounts and sump.

XD booster, master cylinder and rotors, HQ calipers, VP commodore rear brakes.

Twin thermos in front of Aussie Dessert Cooler 4 Row V8 Corty Radiator.

9 inch diff with 28 spline axles.

Stiffening plates welded to front part of chassis and rear suspension mounts.

My engine was out of a US Crown Vic, my engine mounts and sump came from Mark Dallacqua from Blacktown who does V8 conversions for Cortinas, Escorts and Capris.

His mounts and sump were fabricated, by him, as far as I know the standard Windsor mounts regardless of the car will not suit the conversion.

So my sump and mounts would be different to both the CRS and standard items.

The sump was a standard sump that had the bottom half cut off and sheet metal welded up to form up a new lower section.

My computer is a Holden Delco computer as it is not legal to run an adjustable (by laptop) computer in NSW, this conversion was done by Injection Perfection that operate out of Bankstown Airport.

The inlet manifold clears the bonnet no problems I just had to turn my inlet manifold around (but this might just be for my US motor) to clear the brake booster and master cylinder.

Cheers,

Finally got my 5.0L Corty Registered today and looked at the mounts again, they have a standard Windsor Falcon Windsor mount but these bolt to a plate with a fitting to bolt the engine nount to.

The plate is like a large spreader plate that bolts to where the old engine mounts went to and then has 2 supports that are welded to a tube that the engine mount bolt goes through. So its kind of like 2 engine mounts, one standard and one like a full metal bracket welded to a plate.

I also recall now that Mark Dalacqua had an engine plate design to give extra clearance around the headers.

For those that don't know an engine plate is like a big plate that bolts between the front of the engine and all of the other stuff like water pump etc and then has a couple of thick brackets that bolt to the chassis well forward of the old engine mounts, but you need to weld a plate on the chassis at the point where the engine plate brackets bolt to the chassis.

Forgot to ask P100 where he got the pick of the bronze Corty with the 5.0L in it. Looks like a great car, the wheels are spot on.
