Mum gave me her TE (original Owner)
« on: March 28, 2011, 11:46:36 PM »

When I was a Teenager I would have thought fantastic
The then young TE was a Gem now 32 years later she is a bit tired and needs some TLC (a Mig,a angle grinder ,a paint job, a new vinyl roof, gearbox rebuild, rear main oil seal - all the fun and dirty jobs)

Lots of things are new or near new

Head has been cleaned up (was running on ) and all valves reseated - I did this with my uncle about 4 years ago
tyres - standard but only 1000 ks old
power steering and steering components replaced
Shocks and springs replaced 4 years ago
brakes are only 2000 ks old i replaced 2008 and has hardly been driven since

auto - flaring and needs repairing - will undertake - cost $220 for all parts
including GST(i couldn't resist putting that in)

Just pulled the auto out (BW35) will rebuild - have technology and an Uncle who is expert at Mechanical stuff(was a A grade mechanic)(has P76 ) (now 70 but brain is good but hands are stuffed)- I'm the spanner boy

Motor has done 220 k - easy ks as mum didnt drive it hard - used to drive 60 to 70 ks in it and it would always run on - head was full of carbon build up -fixed

Rust - not to much but enough to be a nuisance - Lh floor where the air conditioning discharge pipe leaked and caused a problem

front of drivers side roof has some, that will be fun - I hate removing interior - it always breaks/rips.

The spare tyre well has a few holes in it - will weld - this is easy one

Minor panel damage to rear of vehicle under the bumper where an idiot in a lancer ran into it (he didnt drive away ) and the rear bumper is bent from same incident (I'll have to get my Panel hammer and Dolly out and have some arm aching fun).

Fuel guage is dodgy - will investigate and resolve - or use piece of wood - i can live with it

Clock does not work - but i cant read it without glasses - so i can live with it

dash Lights are dim - and some are not working - though ash tray light does work - i dont smoke

Interior - drivers seat has ripped cloth inserts but the rest is Ok - will replace eventually - but will concentrate on the metal bits for now
carpet is worn in drivers seat and worse for wear in pasengers seat for the air con dripping

anyway enough said

I would put some pictures in if I new how - i'll do it as I go - my teen age son(spanner boy 2) will aide me -he wants the cortina if it will look cool enough for him in year or two.

Cheers
