TD tail lights silver surround
« on: September 04, 2011, 07:25:31 PM »

Does anyone know if the silver edging around the rear tail lights on a TD is available anywhere. I have a pair of new lenses from small ford spares and they don't have any silver edging around them like the original ones have. I thought of sparaying silver paint on them, but I'm sure it won't look anywhere near as good as the original silver. Any ideas?

have you rang a chromers and ask if thay can chrome just edges? Dont know if  the same technique can be used for "normal chroming"  but when iv needed  parts "hard chromed" they cover the the bits, not to be chromed in a waxy coating and it washes off in solvent when hard chroming was dun.

there is a mob in kelmscott here in perth who have the ability to copper coat plastic. this will allow chrome to stick however part of the process in chroming is done @80-90C so if they're the aftermarket lenses originally sold by a certain mob in qld they wont stand the heat. genuine stuff no worries.

another idea i got from an american forum; spotlight sell an aerosol based clear adhesive used for fabric. mask off the lenses on the inside where u want to chrome, spray the glue and then lay alfoil shiny side out into the lense. looks better quality than the original 70's ford stuff.
