T5 gear box & 250 cross flow
« on: September 16, 2009, 09:25:36 PM »

Just want to find out if it is easy to fit a T5 box in a TE Cortina behind a 250 cross flow engine. Would the bellhousing bolt straight on to the 250 engine block?
Appreciate the info.

you can get a 250 t5 bellhousing so it will bolt straight up that way. nothing else bolts up ok with mod except the tailshaft which goes straight in, oh and the speedo cable too.

Thanks mate, 250-T5 bellhousing sounds like a very rare thing to find. Is it possible to mount the T5 on a more common bellhousing with some sort of a adaptor plate or something like that?

I got the whole bellhousing and gearbox for $450 from the wreakers.

The only real alternative that is worth a try is the bellhousing sold by the Castlmain Rod Shop - Victoria
http://www.rodshop.com.au/trans_conversions/2wd_trans.htm
but it will be likely to be pricey.

hi, the best and easiest way is to fit a mustang rear extention housing and shifter rod which will put the gear stick in the same position as std .. also use a AU falcon gear stick which is almost straight up. the others will hit on the hand brake when in 2nd or 4th.. dont try and fit the box with the falcon rear extention housing or you will need to cut, weld and move the hand brake which will all affect the rules and laws with the sub frame.. cheers
