Could the last one out please turn off the lights.
« on: June 20, 2011, 02:51:34 AM »

Where has everyone gone?
Most forums have had no responses for over a week and in some cases 6 months.
Is there a central gathering that's worthwhile for us Corty addicts left?

I've had nearly 2000 views on my thread since I joined. Even if it's just a general quesion that would be easy enough to google, ask anyway. Or provide the answer. Become the source of information that google points to, and a reason people would want to come here and want to return.

I'm not a casual member, nor am I a Corty amateur,  look at my join date...doh
I am most certainly not a car amateur. I've owned over 120 cars and currently have a stable of 9 mint condition classics. Probably close to half a mill by now. Don't shoot your mouth off when you don't know what's coming back.
I posted this in another forum in the build section.....

[start insert here]

TE she's been a long train a runnin'

I was given a great mint condition Cortina TE Ghia '78 model with 80k on the clock in 2001. I registered it and drove it 2200kms in the next 2 years and moved to Bathurst where I no longer needed it. There were already 2 cars and only one driver in the house but I'd developed an affinity for the Corty.
The car was bought new in Broken Hill by my Aunt and was driven by my Uncle until his passing and then briefly by my Aunt until it sat in her carport for 10 years when my brother purchased it for his son who was 14 at the time. He is a serious car person and after re-registering it he realised that to give this to P-plater would be tantamount to murder, his wife drove it until the rego expired and it sat in his carport until he he gifted it to me, after I'd returned from a traumatic breakdown.
I subsequently got into the groove again and began to acquire more cars with the Corty languishing in the shed, receiving a regular spin around the block, a wash and the odd bit being replaced or upgraded.
Since 2004 I've spent $22,000 on it and she is a screamer.
Whilst I've been doing the rebuild I've extensively photographed and notated all of the procedures though I have intentionally not posted any pictures (except as she was originally) as I would like for them to be seen in context of the build and to make a good thorough read. Properly delivered, in the correct order.

My intention is debut 3 projects at the next All Ford Day at Eastern Creek.
The Corty, an XF van with an EL engine and LTD interior (my PA system car), and my workhorse 225kw EL wagon (the tow car).
After this I will organise and edit a proper build thread which will go through everything from tyre selection to roll cage, gusseting the chassis, diff rebuilds, porting, setting up triples, brakes, weight loss, and keeping it legal.
My over riding consideration was the car had be registered to compete in tarmac rally type events.
She's about 240kw (but a bit edgy), 920kg, looks like mums shopping car ( I kept the vinyl roof and the wind back) and handles like a Lotus.

I hope she's ready for the AFD she's close but a little messy now and needs some good weather to finish her.

I'd like to thank everyone here and on so many of the other forums, who have contributed some valuable insights into how to go about things and subsequently have made incredible contributions to my own personal growth in areas not related.

I look forward to publishing in the near future and hope to see you at the AFD.
I hope to bring the band and the portable stage and maybe do some some solid ROCK in the carpark as well. (The van I'm showing is set up as a portable gig with a foldout trailer/stage and integrated 2000W PA and light rig).

[end insert here]

How old are you?
19-20 maybe.
Plebian go forth and provide us with factory workers.

DO NOT PISS ME OFF.
You started to piss me off. That is NOT a good place to be

I love my cars and was sad to see no action here.
If I have to, I'll take a more active role just because the URL needs to be done better.
Even a cross link to the others but a central area for all Corty owners would be good and this site needs a major upgrade and re-alignment

fordcortina.com.au is the address it just needs the people and org to be THE place.

In the end I personally don't care, I troll all the forums and glean what I want. I'd just like a place to put up my stuff definitively.
You should see what they are doing with Mercedes 300/24  engines in Germany now, 650hp and totally streetable.

Well guys, i try my best, if you knew how the website started and the alterations over those  years , you would be shocked.
Now that i lost my sight, my participation here has slowed.
The other admins are still here, just not 100%, we all have commitments, some time it could be months before we get any time to spend on the car, or the website.

As far as the poll goes, what are you trying to say, you could do better or you just want rid of me?

Well step up, what do you suggest????
Can you design websites,?
Can you integrate the 3 programs required to run this website to create 1 entry point, instead of logging into the website, forum and gallery individually.
Are you willing to fork out the cash required to purchase the promotional products?
What about the hosting??
I supply free hosting for most cortina owners wanting webspace for free and have done so since 2005.
It's quite easy to bag shit outta me and annoy others on the site, but where is that gonna get you.
As its said before, if we post more, more interest will happen.

Your turn now to tell me what ha to be done.

Posting more even if it's just chit chat helps heaps. It can cause conversation in a thread or even if it's tangential it can bring to the discussion different ideas and approaches that can help others if not the OP.

Meh, this forum is what it is. Tils thread has definitley breathed some fresh air into a pretty stale forum. Not really sure why that is, lots of people look around (which is really good) but not alot of posts. If I could make a suggestion it would be to be able to be automaticly logged in when you visit the site so your not having to log in everytime you want to post something. Sometimes you just think, yeah too hard. God that sounds lazy lol.

Bucster, we all love you here dude, and I for one am extremely greatfull for the work / money you put into this site. Also really feel for you with all the medical dramas your having, It sucks to see a good Corty person suffering.

Brycevr, I think you need to take a bex and have a good lie down    I have read this thread a couple of times and it seems Tils was just having a laugh and stirring you up like friends doand you have flown off the handle, accused him of being a 19 year old factory worker pleb and said that making you angry was not a good place to be.

Firstly have you even seen Tils's thread? clearly not as if you had you would see the skill level and realise he's no factory worker pleb. You put him down for what he's doing but you yourself have shown us 1 (one) picture of a te Cortina in tired original condition which could be picked up for under a grand. Yes you've said you've spent $22,000 on it but you have no proof yet. I understand your reasons as you want to debut them at all ford day etc, but for an outsider looking in these are the facts.

Secondly the fact you have over reacted to a fellow friend having a stir on here makes you look like a massive Keyboard warrior. You live in Bathurt, are you really going to make the trip to Adelaide to make Tils sorry for his innapropiate comments? If I had to guess I would say that because of your mental breakdown your judgement is a little clouded. I'm not having a dig at you about this at all. I don't really understand mental health issues but I know it's a big problem, when I visited the doctor the other day he told me that 1 in 3 people who visit the doctor nowadays are in because of mental health issues  :(

Food for thought from a "seasoned"    forum  guy

I really hope this doesn't start a sh1t fight. I debated posting on it for a few days as I thought it might be better to stay out of it and let it blow over, it got the better of me though lol  :P

brycevr, I actually thought Tils was having a go at people like me who may also be reading the thread, not you, as I log on occasionally and read a few of the interesting threads and dont contribute much. I had a Cortina which I loved, bought an old one to do up but in the 3 years since I havent had the money to do anything with it as all my money goes into not losing my house. I can only dream of my corty being like others on the site but until then I feel kinda like a fraud being here.
