hey,
not sure where u live but in adelaide u-pull-it have some cortinas u can get them from and in melbourne they are called pick a parts,
im sure most states would have places like these, u go and get the parts off urself.
ive gone thru 2 sets already, u can use the p/side wiper on the drivers side but it does go off the windscreen a bit when it hits the top,
the good thing about these places is that the parts are cheap.
hope ive been some help.

Thanks for that, I will probably give that a go, but I reckon that it will result in the same problem eventually as the plastic breaks down from the sun damage.

are you refering to the plastic bit with the washers that push onto the motor?

if you find a source for a new one i would be interested :)

I am guessing we are talking about the same part but I haven''t pulled out the wiper motor yet.

You and me both.

It shouldn''t be too hard to make up a replacement part.

As this part is so brittle and exposed I am surprised it has not come up before.

Even to machine a metal replacement part should not be to difficult.

I might talk to the local engineer to see if he would be interested in doing a run of a decent number that would make it viable.

Please let me know if anyone else is interested I think a minimum of 50-100 would make it worthwhile.

Hey Tim,
Nice idea, yes they are very brittle and most of my corty''s had at least one bit of the plastic broken. Let me know how you go, maybe we can work something out pricewise and advertise them on the website.

I will have to get off my arse and see how much the engineering firm wants and how many for a run he needs.

If it is the bush you are talking about it will be hard to get them off another te/tf without breaking them.  Another solution which is better is to try and find a td cortina, tc should be the same also and get it from them, they use a metal clip instead of the plastic crap bush.  You will also need to get the wiper arms from the td as its different to a te/tf.  When you put it back you will notice that the arm doesnt touch the windscreen, just remove the clip on the arm and presto problem solved.  If you are talking about the actual wiper arms Iam pretty sure rare spares have them, but they arnt cheap.  But probably better getting new as the thread will most likely be stuffed on a second hand one.  When that happens your wipers dont work very well.  I had to drill a hole in the wiper arms to hold them in place due to mine moving, this worked for a short time.  Then I found out about the td and problem solved.

If you're talking about that little plastic fitting that is on the end of second control arm and is used to pivot the blade, then there are metal tabs with a hole on one end, that you rivet on to replace the plastic fitting. My brother gave me one that he used from his XC GXL. The hole was too small and I couldn't be bothered chasing another one, so I took off the ovoid shaped spacer on the shaft and drilled out the ball end and replaced it with a stainless counter sunk bolt (3/16). A bit of a hassle but a perfect solution. It will out last the car for sure!
XC wipers will work but don't have the parallel arm arrangement.
