Another TE wagon in S.A
« on: July 22, 2011, 04:17:18 PM »

Won this during the week on ebay, normally I'm not a real fan of the TE/TF Cortinas but this one was too cheap to pass up. Threw a bid on it with about 2 minutes to go, and was sure someone would outbid me, but no one did. Not sure if that's such a good thing or not as the wifey is really not impressed. A bit of a double edged sword this one, but I figure for what it owes me even if it's a complete rust bucket it will be worth it for parts. Should be picking it up next weekend. Bit of a drive, it's out at Bordertown.

If it's rusted out I may still want to save it, does anyone on here know of someone with experience in fixing rust on a te wagon?   ;)

Havn't picked it up yet but it comes with a spare 2 litre and 4 speed box, a set of steel wheels and a set of 13" factory mags and a set of doors off a te ghia wagon.

Suprisingly it's not my first TE. Picked one up about 8 / 9  years ago out the Sunday paper for $150. The guy I bought it off had bought it cheap to get him around while he fixed his 1 tunna ute, the water pump was making a hell of a noise "for months" but he kept driving it, and serves him right it let go miles from home, spat the fan through the radiator. He cracked the shits smashed the drivers window (with his fist) got the car towed home and decided to get rid of it. She was a 200ci 6 cyl auto and it had power steering, sunroof, sports steering wheel, new number plates and the tyres and brakes looked maybe 10% worn. I fixed it up and detailed it and drove it for a few months but ended up swapping it for a suposedly good 250 pre crossflow for my TC, which packed it in maybe 3 months later. Again karma stepped in and he ended up lending the car to a "mate" who trashed it for him    Oh and it also was a wagon  :D

Go the wagons!

I have no idea what you are alluding to...

What colour are the ghia doors and trim, and would you consider offloading them?? - even if it's just the door trims...

Cheers guys

The plans changed and headed down to pick it up on Saturday. Was a full day. Headed off around 8am and was driving out the gate to return the trailer at 7pm. Had a good, uneventfull trip. Lovely, just the way I like it.
Actually thinking about it I had the dash lights on the vt drop out about half way home. Meh I thought who cares... except we found out that the rear taillights are in the same circuit so we drove home with no trailer / taillights for the rest of the trip and didn't even know it   . luckily it turned out to be a 10amp fuse had blown.

Stopped in Tailem Bend for a bottle of Coopers finest  :D

Unfortunately due to it not running (fuel pump is dead and has no battery) and the fact that 2 of the tyres don't hold air and the crappy rainy weather yesterday I havn't touched it from were it was pushed off the trailer. Not 100% sure what I'm doing with it yet, to be honest I wouldn't mind fixing it up but time will tell. If I part it out I will definitley let people know of available parts.

Tils - I hear your rust skills on a te wagon are slipping, You might need to refresh yourself on mine, it has a bit around the front screen on the passenger side, hopefully not as much as yours lol. The doors are the same colour as the car, but I havn't unpacked them so I'm not sure if they are any good or not.

Rick, I know! I just can't help myself     I'm a sucker for a cheap Cortina. Always room in my shed... I wish, shoulda got something bigger!

Pcman, as I said I was sure someone would outbid me. Are you in Victoria?

Davius, good to hear from you again! must be about time for an update on your beast aye? If your roof rack is in good condition I'll grab it off you as the one on this one is pretty rusty.

Hopefully I'll be able to get into it on the weekend, major hurdle out of the way getting it home though  :)
