Cortina control arms on the steering column
« on: August 03, 2011, 07:11:20 PM »

I am in the process of re-building my car and one of the areas for attention is the dash and steering wheel area.
I want to upgrade or replace the blinker indicator arm as it has faded and any text that was on there has long ago worn off. The wiper control arm on the other side of the steering wheel is in perfect nick and all the text can be clearly seen.
Has anyone ever grafted arms from a more modern car into a Cortina(TD)
If I could find ones that would fit, I think it would also help to modernize the interior appearance a bit.
Regards,
Shane

I'm going to mess about in this regard with the EF switch gear into the cortina. If that doesn't work, I have a wrecking yard that I can go through until I find one that works. Which in turn I'll post (the same way I've been spamming my thread with mundane updates) :P

Dont know if it is any help but i modified and fitted a mk2 escort blinker switch into my mk1 cortina. wasnt difficult to get the electrics right but the location and positioning of the arm was a challenge and i had to make up brackets and mounts. Couldnt get the auto cancel to work tho. Maybe something i'll stuff around with on the rebuild when i get round to it!

You should find this interesting...

Quote from: "Tils"
As promised...

This discovery of mine: Turns out the telescoping sections are virtually the same between the TE Cortina and the EF Falcon...

So I did a little switcharoo. ;) Top of the falcon shaft with the lower section of the Cortina...

Put in...

I then cut the steering shaft tube mounts off the cortina (I welded a rod across to save the hassle of aligning it later) and the adjustable mount off the falcon tube and put them together.

I then cut the end off the cortina tube for the bush and dust seal.

Put in place...

And voila! It fits!! Didn't even cut or bend under the dash!!!

See!

Now I have a 1978 Cortina with drivers airbag, and late model switch gear and key!

If you wanted you could just have used an earlier Falcon steering column with no airbag lol.

Looks good don't you rekon, might have to get a black wheel though... :P
