Hi Blake,
The 1jz motor is an easier fit than my project, a 1uzfe 4L V8.
Most motor transplants happen because you come across something cheap and then work out the easiest way to put it in the car. The main concerns i see are the mounts for the engine and gearbox, getting the gear stick in the correct spot, adapting a tailshaft, wiring the original ecu or aftermarket computer into the cortina wiring harness plus a few other minor ones. Not counting the engine and gearbox costs, allow 1000-1500 to do it yourself, to get it done professionally maybe double the amount.

Have a think about what you want to do with the car, is it a daily driver, do you want to drag race it, are you going to be doing long distances etc. Theres a lot of members on here, when you get a direction you want to head, theres always some one who can help.

Hi blake,
Thats a big ask to have all that in the 1 car, have you decided on Auto or Manual?
Auto''s are better for drag racing but a manual is more fun for street driving. Long distances require an overdrive, which is hard to get a performance auto gearbox with overdrive and stay on a budget.

Hi Blake,
Ok now you got a little bit of direction on what you need to buy, start lookin at prices of import motors or on ebay and through the trading post etc. If you just find a motor at a good price then consider how much an aftermarket Ecu will cost and a good strong C4 auto and a adapter plate etc. But get a handle on prices and other motor options b4 you totally commit to a 1jz.

The 1JZ and 2JZ engines have 3 different sumps available.  One of them is a rear sump which is what you want for the Cortina.  The options are Supra, Soarer, Aristo, Chaser etc.  I can't remember which sump comes out of what but a bit of research on the Toyota forums will sort that out.

When you go auto with the 1J front cuts check which model cars have the auto computer seperate.  The ones with the seperate auto conputer will have it in the boot and you don't get it in the front cut.

As Bucster said there are C4 adapters for the 1J engine and that is a good option if you are going to upgrade to a decent size single turbo etc.

I have a mate who has grafted a 2J into a 7 series BMW which is his daily driver and is also building a 3 series BMW with a 700 hp big single 2J and a C4 high stall etc.  They are a tuff engine and there are heaps of bolt ons for them.  Great starting point if you want something to upgrade as time goes by.
