Stopping Spammers
« on: November 20, 2011, 04:38:56 PM »

Hi Guys,
The spammers registering and posting is becoming a right pain in the arse.  :cortinad:

I tried to ban one today, a Mila Sofia when i searched the user database she wqsnt registered but was shown as a member, this is how the spammers have been getting in.
They have found a hole in the registration script.
I found a security update on Geeklog that corrects it, but we have to update the complete site to do that.
And we are dropping the geeklog system and developing further just with phpbb and coppermine gallery and flash chat.
So please be patient it will happen.

Hi All,
Well i seem to have slowed the spamming, i made the registration process require email verification. Seems to have stopped most of the rubbish, maybe 1 every couple of days gets through now.
I must of upset a few spammers becuse the membership number has jumped from 3800 to 5400 in less than a week. All waiting for an email from admin for registration approval.
My problem now is , i dont know where the hell the verification emails are going, supposed to be admins email, which is me , but i havent received anything, frankly........ i dont really care.......
So if you are a genuine Cortina fanatic and would like to reegister, please persist and email me personally and we will ensure your account is setup promptly,

Hey,
Now a further 10 days after my last post on the subject, the membership number has jumped to over 7500, probably 7300 of them are spammers, :cortinad:  lol.
Thank fuk i changed the registration process, still got no idea where the registrations are going, and still dont really care.
