Man can not rely on just a Cortina
« on: May 18, 2012, 10:07:26 PM »

Hi All,
So like it says, nobody can survive if they rely on a Cortina as there only means of transport. So whats your daily drive or getaround mode of transport, got any other projects or stuff built or in the build process, that we builders of fine art might appreciate. I have had a few things in the build and under wraps for a while i''l give some sneak pics and ideas shortly.
They incude...
lexus V8 in Te, (no big news there)
V6 Vy motor into posty transit van, Rear Air bags w/ onboard compressor for towing boat, car trailer etc
1988 Hamilton jet boat with original hamilton jey built in Hamilton N.Z 351 cleveland, alloy heads and manifold 750 carb
1999 lwb mid roof transit turbo diesel 5 sp, this was an ex courier vehicle i have to clean up and  put back on the road for a business i am taking over(MTM wholesale tyres)
Xr8 Cortina, this cortina is progressing nicely, motor & box in, diff in, fuel drop tank in radiator fits , had to modify floor pan for front seats as my head was hitting the roof, lol, did the El steering column conversion as described by Tils, worked a treat, used the El instrument cluster, now im trying to stuff the Speedy Air spares A/c heating evaporator unit under the dash, pics coming soon.
Finally my most prized vehicular posession 65 mustang fastback, no more said.
So thats about it, what about you people list them up.

My Daily driver is a series 2 AU XR6 Manual, which replaced my gas only manual xflow TE Cortina which was my daily before I got the AU.  Basically replaced the corty as I was sick of not having aircon in the summer and having to fill the corty fairly regurlarly.  Probably only got 200k from a tank on the corty.  Looking to get another corty as a project, which will be a occasional driver.   Really would like to get a 1970 Fastback mustang but they are a bit pricey even for fairly average example.

My daily is an EL Falcon wagon that will soon be turfed for a BA GT, I have the TE 4L turbo wagon, a VH Valiant V8 ute, getting minor rust repairs atm, a VG Valiant Hardtop Pacer 245 3 speed (pretty rough condition, and putting a W58 5 speed in it), a GD Galant Hardtop (old shitter that will one day get fixed), an old 89 Toyota Surf TD (for fun in the mud), and currently buying a CH Chrysler by Chrysler hardtop (shouldn't get it but always wanted one and they are only getting more expensive)... That's about it. The joys of having a car yard. :P

No you cannot rely on "a" Cortina, but two of them you can. I have my toy TD which I use as a daily drive, and a second TD which is original (only done 120,000 ks) as my back up. This works for me.

My daily during the week is my Green 77 TE Wagon - it is plenty of fun with a big cam and lots of go. My Sunday drive Corty is another 77 Wagon - was a 1 owner - stock standard in perfect original condition. I have an 02 Navara which I drive when I have to carry building materials and I also use it to go to the farm and back. I have another 77 TE Wagon which is a shell which was restored in 1990 but never re-built - it is a one-day project waiting for something mad engine-wise - I need $$ to do it properly. My wife has a Mazda 3, and finally I have a 1958 Lloyd Hartnett which I am about to start restoring - it has a massive 594cc twin piston air cooled motor - it is a cool car that completely unbolts - no welding required to strip it down to the floor pan - I will post some pics when I get going on it.

My daily is a Blue Bf XR8 ute with matching trailer.
I built the TC Cortina for my dad but i still get to take it for a drive
My main project of 8 years is a 67 mustang with the Eleanor kit and a 4.6 L cobra motor from the 2002 mustang. 5 speed TKO box, 9'' with 35 spline mosser axles and 3,55 LSD. Brakes are Brembo's with 345mm rotors up front and 330 on the back. She has the RRS front struts with power rack and notching kit so the engine will fit. In the back she has a 4 link from total control products in the USA.
Aussie dessert cooler radiator .
She is almost ready for paint. just need to sort out the wiring and get it running, then pull it down to paint it.
Also on the way i am just about to buy a XW GT lookalike which is ready to cruzz.
and the wife has a toyota prado.

Sort of... I need to be bare foot to negotiate the pedals and I would be better off with an open roof version as it was not built for 6'4"!
