Hey can anyone help with advice regarding instaling air cond in a TD XL .I think XLE had it, or can you fit modern/aftermarket ones? Doing variety bash next year and have been told it would be handy to have cause of dirt roads/lots of dust.thanks

i used to have a tc fitted with an aftermarket smiths unit. i never drove the car much but when i did it seemed to work good. i found it a bit intrusive inside the cabin though. it shouldnt be to fit but the hardest part is locating a unit to fit.

I've fitted an under-dash unit from Repco called a Cool Drive3. There is still enough leg room underneath it and it cools fantastically well.It fits under the dash on the passenger side in the TD. I can send you photos of it installed if you want. I bought it because, in 1981, one of my older brothers put the same model under the dash on the glove box side in a XC Falcon and I remember it being freezing  even on a hot summers day. They have two fans for air intake on the sides of the unit. I'm sure Repco still sell them and you can probably see them on their website and as far as I know they are Australian made.Regards Shane (fmd)

I'd be checking out if a te/tf unit will fit, can't see why they wouldn't, battery may have to be moved though.

As far as I'm aware the firewalls are the same.

Hi All,
If you live in nth Qld, contact Speedy Air Spares in Bundaberg. They have several aftermarket systems, one which can be squeezed under the cortina dash and uses the factory outlets. I used the compac version for my Te. It has dedicated left and right foot vents, 3 outlet vents for, left, centre, right main vents, and 2 outlets for the windscreen demister, it replaced the complete factory heater/venting system, i will take some pic's shortly as the cars is in another workshop for some development.

Thank you Bucster for that info. You have solved two problems for me as I have a 4.1 EFI in the shed to go in my TD but the heater gets in the road of the fuel rail and the aircon will be advantage as it gets quite warm in Albury.
