1600 motor
« on: October 20, 2012, 06:56:15 PM »

Well my replacement 1600 HC motor and gearbox finally arrived .Im taking out a 1300cc HC motor and putting in the 1600cc into a 1972 mk 3 .the 1600s got a few issues to sort first.one of the ? frost plugs is missing [the round plugs in side of motor] can these still be bought ? or could I pinch one out of the 1300,if so how do they come out, then I guess they are just pressed in .Also the carburator is broken on the 1600 it looks like the inlet manifolds are the same can I reuse the 1300 manifold and carb which I had reconditioned,it would need a larger main jet  ?,can I swap one out of the 1600 into it?.any help appreciated.Brent

anyone out there.ive sorted frost plug and swapped main jet over ,so il see how that goes.next issue the 1300 has a generator with seperate voltage regulater the 1600 has alternator with built in regulater, from what I can see in manual I need to bypass regulater and take the red 12 v positive from starter motor directly to alternater and fit the blue ign light wire directly to alternater.there are three terminals on alternater ,one is live positive, one is blue ign warning light wire and it appears the other red wire is also a positive wire ,why are there two ?.I checked continuity between both red wire terminals on alternater they are both conected with no resistance between them.anyone else done this conversion
