After a Tc cortina diff and fuel sender
« on: March 16, 2013, 07:21:25 PM »

I am after a Diff for a TC cortina. I want it to be  2.92 ratio. I am going to get it shortened so i can fit bigger rear wheels and convert it to 5 stud. Preferably in Adelaide if possible. lol
Also after a fuel sender as mine is stuffed like most of them.

I have one with no axles $25 it's yours, I assume you will be  getting some falcon axles shortened for it anyway.
I'm in sa, golden grove area.

Edit.  its out a te, they still swap over but you would have to fit the later te/tf shockers.

I have a full/complete TC Diff from a 4cyl car. Not sure what it's worth, offer if you want it. ;)

Adelaide, North Eastern suburb.

Are you sure Norm? I got my 2.92 out of a TC 200 six. I thought 2.92's came behind all 200 motors, 2.77 behind the 250

I better go check to make sure. I just thought that all factory 250's came out with a 2.92. I know the diff in mine has never been changes. I'll check to make sure. Still deciding what way to go for the rear end of my tc. I want o put wide convos on the rear but not sure if i want to keep the standard drum rear and get the diff shortened and go lsd or shorten the diff and use ed falcon disk setup for the rear. I'm definately going to get billet axles made up so i don't have to worry about breaking one ever..I don't really need disk brake setup as the drum setup on the rear slows it down no probs and it's not a track car so they wont overheat. Decisions decisions..

Unless you're going to fit a spool standard axles will be fine.

Yeah thought that. If i shorten the diff i'm going to have have 1 axle resplined after shortening and 1 will be fine from the ed diff. The thing with replining though is i've heard it isn't as strong. I can get a pair of billet axles made for $400. I've decided to stay with the drum rears as the onlt track time will be 1/4 mile and the drums work well. I've got some brand new drums anyway which i can get the 4 stud holes welded and drilled 5 stud. Its around $500 to get the diff shortened.

The ed has  28 spline axles so you will have to change the center to suit and the offset is for disk brakes, they are about 18mm shorter then the drum offset so the backing plate for the drum will have to be mounted in deeper. Also about 10mm needs cutting off the spline to fit it into the housing.  A skyline r31 will fit on the long side and has the same offset . If you want to stay with 25 spline I have a theory that a xf disk brake axle will fit like the ed one and a pintara r31( <--- IF that's what they are called.) Will fit in the other side it also has 25 spline.  The r31 need redrill of the studs to suit falcon.

I hit send before I had finished and been busy since then,
anyway you would be better off if you go 28 spline, i don't think the ed axle would be short enough to get the 25mm? You need, as I said the offset from the bearing to brake is only about 18mm shorter with out a brake on it, a drum would only probably be about 3mm so you have 15mm .same with a r31 on the other side.
On the weekend I'm looking at fitting 2 r31 axles into my diff and I was going to look at if I can have 10mm turned of the bearing seat witch will sink it in the housing 25mm with the drum on. I also have to workout how to fit the backing plate on. I'll let you know how it goes.
Where did you get the quote for the billet axles? I was quoted $800, I was going to get some but every time I save up some cash I'd have to pay a bill or some shit with it so I just gave up.

Well I had a look and think it will be easy enough, in a nutshell. Take 10mm off the bearing seats, 10mm off the spline off the longer axle, a 15mm spacer on the backside of the original brake mount witch is 10mm wide itself . My only concern is fitting the brake, I may feel a pulse in the peddle or vibration if not 100%.  Plan to fix it through the original holes so it should be fine.

I'll start a thread when I've done it, plan to have it done within 4 weeks.
