my new te
« on: July 14, 2013, 05:01:42 PM »

Thought id upload a few pics of the te sedan i picked up for $350...

its in heaps better condition than the last couple that ive owned... there was no trans in it but there was a supposedly reconditioned trans in the boot that is all bolted in now, also has 15" focus wheels on it now and i got rid of the rice burner cannon that was on the back. I had it all ready for a test drive last night but the damn accelerator cable decided to snap  :banghead hopefully my local wrecker has one for me...

It was sitting at bargain steel centre in burton... Found it on gumtree advertised for 450. The only rust I've found so far is behind the rear wheel arches and a spot that was patched up (poorly) on the floor. I noticed the carpet on the passenger side is a little damp though.. Ill have to take the heater box out and see if there's a hole through the fire wall  :-\:

Great pickup. I saw it also! They are coming hard to find now. What's your plans for it?

Nothing big at this stage... I'm on a bit of a tight budget. I'm just gonna slowly clean it up and drive it to work until the cash flow picks up again.

I think I may have asked this before but I can't find the old post so here goes....
If I bolt an xe/xf injection inlet to the old girl will the heater box be in the way? I know I would have to run new fuel lines and use a efi fuel pump and surge tank etc. and I was thinking of using an aftermarket ecu.. I just don't want to have to take out the heater box. Anyone done the conversion?

not sure about the runners hitting the heater box but looking at its location I would have to say yes. You maybe able to cut the heater box and re- shape it with fiberglass, but the heater core < think thats what its called, may have to be moved too.

Has the motor been changed to a XE / xf one?  thought your te would of came out with cast head, plus  the alloy head motors in the cortys probably didn't have the cut outs for the injectors, being the early alloy motors.

Yea it's got the alloy head but its a 77 model so I thought it may b an xf motor... Gonna take the inlet off and have a look on the weekend.

may be able to tell without taking off the manifold. if it has a number on it between the first and second inlet ports, say c1 c2 e1 e1 etc it will have the injector cut outs. if its blank it may or may not.

Cheers man. Turns out I may have bigger problems. I'm guessing the reason the last trans shit itself is because the radiator is leaking coolant into the trans cooler lines.. I put fresh fluid in that is now like strawberry milk lol I don't know wether it will be cheaper to keep draining it and refilling it till it comes good or just bite the bullet and get another trans.. To make it even more convenient I'm not certain that the trans I bolted in is actually reconditioned or what lmao I love cars  :banghead

I had this happen to my BA, common fault with the BA. kept putting it off to bypass the radiator then it happen. I was straight onto it though, removed the cooler lines from the radiator, didn't drain the trans, went to u pull it got a after market  cooler off a eb, good clean out and fitted it. my trans was fine but the BA doesn't have a dipstick so couldn't see how much  water got into the trans.

my theory was the water would only get into the trans after the car is turned off. engine  running,  the pressure in the cooler lines will force the trans fluid into the radiator but when the car is turned off the pressure in the radiator will build up and force the water into the trans.

I was told that if any water gets into the trans the clutches soak up the water and separate the friction material from the metal backing. but I'm sure some water would off got into mine.
