Spark Plugs, Leads and Points
« on: June 13, 2017, 05:39:31 PM »

Hi Guys,

What points, leads and spark plugs do you find to be the best or most reliable to use?

I have the 2.0L 4cyl and am having some minor running problems; occasional misses.  Not sure exactly what the issue is but its been a long time since any of these parts were replaced, and a couple of years ago a mechanic suggested i was due for new points.  So i figure some preventative maintenance can't hurt (?)
Cheers

Hey mate... yea lotsa closet cortina owners here.
Not sure how many owners still run a pinto motor.
It was usually the first thing to rip out when i was growing up...
Been 30+ yrs since my last 4cyl... and it was mums car. Lol. A station wagon auto.
But start with the basic service until u find the miss. Use whatever u get from repco etc?
Fuel filter as well. If u don't drive car much fuel could be stale or have water from condensation being in a metal tank. Tip 1L of metho into tank to dissspate the water or remove tank and flush.

Hey again.
If you can afford it. Ditch the points and upgrade to a new dissy and electronic kit. Prolly ur best bang tor reliability.

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172304397264
