havent seen it like that. normally it rips the bracket straight out of the floorpan. all cortinas do it,even a 2.0L will do it

Yeah it seems to be a common problem, both my TE's have them broken and usually its at the bottom where it meets the floorpan.  As Norm said it will even happen on a 2.0litre which is what my project TE was when I got it, and that was with a auto.  Though it isnt welded on the best just a few spot welds and thats it.

wow, didn't realise it was common.

This is only on the drivers side. Has just ripped the metal, the welds are all still intact.

What side did yours break on Rob?

On my purple te it was at the top broke off where it connects to the parcel shelf on the drivers side.  On the project te it was at the bottom near the floorpan, luckily it hasnt ripped the floor, only reason I realised it had broke is its got 2 self tap screws holding it in place.  This is on the drivers side also. So looks like the drivers side is more common.  The 2 other te and 1 tf I had as parts cars not sure if they were also broken, didnt really take note and been along time since I have had them.
