Should Ford bring back the Cortina branding?

Considering our environmental issues, do you think that Ford should move away from the large Falcon's and import/or locally build a smaller family mover with a few engine options?

Personally I think they should bring the name back and start to make responsible sized cars with more economical fuel efficient engines.

I doubt it very much that they would revive the car or the name.  Look at what happened when they reintroduced the capri, dont thing they sold very well.  On your comment about being more responsible and introducing smaller cars, while we are killing off the falcon what about all the 4x4's while we are at it.  I think there is room for all size cars, small cars wont suit everyone.  While Iam at lets just ban hyundai's and all these crappy imports, but at the top of the list lets ban BMW's : LOL

Looking at fords direction now with the fiesta, focus and mondeo, all seem very european, totally a different direction from the previous generation of ford small cars, with the escort, capri and cortina.
I think the escort would have a better chance of revival than the corty, the capri was challenged but was not a fair platform compared to the original product.

Im all for economy but its nice to have a huge motor stuffed in a small shoebox.
lol

Your not understanding my point.

Regardless, rego should be much, much cheaper for people who want to go with smaller cars and dearer for people who want guzzlers but their should be concessions for people with big cars who only use them on the weekends etc.

4wd should be killed off too, obviously there is a market for all but they should be taxed higher to stop those fuel guzzling 4wd & big sedans being used by soccer mums picking up there kids from school when a much smaller car will do.

On your comment about imports, most of the imports are very fuel efficient. My M3 for example uses 10.1/100kms giving it stick, on the other hand my cortina with a fresh engine (stock) used 16/100, my new statesment uses 15.5/100 etc. The M3 makes 252kw out of a 3.2litre NA 6. Ford are miles behind in there technology to even compete with the frugalness of the euros. Look at the Hyundai Getzs fuel consumption figures.

I think Dwayne should be banned for two reasons, one for mentioning the hyundai, but more for posting those damn pictures of the enemy.  You all know who I mean.  While we are on he subject of handing out punishment, bucs should also be punished for allowing  those pictures to stay  on this website.  Last work SHAME ON YOU DWAYNE and BUCS,  SHAME!!!

this is a good question. i thought i'd have a bit of a think about this one before i answer.

there's two ways you could look at it. if it were done in the same style in that basically it would be a smaller, lighter, cheaper version of the falcon then for sure i'd have one. who wouldnt want a 24V DOHC 4.0L mini falcon? the thing would piss and have the refinements and features of a modern day car.

on the flipside if they dragged any ole car and stuck a cortina badge on it just to cash in on the nostalgic value then i'm not interested.

while holden ppl will tell you that a current monaro is definitely part of the scene you honestly cant think by cutting two doors off a run-o-the-mill commodore, sticking a whopping great v8 in it and think it even holds a candle to a HG/HK monaro.

ford are guilty of it too. i'm sorry but in my opinion i dont think that a BA/BF GT belongs in the same class as a XY/XA GT.

for starters the early holdens and ford were built with a racing purpose in mind, now they're cashing in on a name.

if they built a modern cortina along the same theme, lines and comparison as 30 years ago then i'm there for sure.

LOL, Its just a German Commodore anyway........ what woud Bucster know, he got all confused and fitted a TOYOTA engine into his Corty..... Oh what a feeling ey? Bet he can probably do that gay jump also.......

I agree with Norm, dont cash in on the name, bring it back in retro to capture the essence of what it was originally designed for.... But as europe are going, perhaps fit it with a smaller diesel engine (ecomony in mind) as the technology has definately come a long way from the days of mechanical injection! Or even a jazzed up focus engine.

I agree that the current GT Falcon and the Monaro are a joke and basically a way to cash in on those nameplates.  If you are going to do it do it right.  Have a look at the USA with some of the retro muscle cars and hotrods, some are good, some arnt so good.  From the ones I have seen the one I like the most is the new charger.

With the Monaro I dont think it would have been built if it wasnt going to be exported to the USA as the cost to produce it wouldnt have been justified if it was just going to be a local car.  The Cortina nameplate wont be revived as the Mondeo fits in the area where the Cortina was, a mid sized car.
