1000hp highway
« on: December 24, 2007, 07:05:08 PM »

Hi All,
1000hp, thats a lot of horses and well within my capabilities, but i need some input.
The 1uzfe 4litre all alloy V8 from Toyota is well capable of 2600hp on a full scale fully modified platform, 1200 Hp is achievable with Forced induction and no major internal mods.
My original plan was for a totally stock concept using standard Toyota auto box and ecu etc. This is just about achieved and will be registered in Jan 08, Feb08 at the latest. Its also been completed within my estimated budget of 15+Grand, allowing another $4G to tidy up the body and complete rego and engineering etc.
Now i have my sights set on whats possible with this over engineered motor, first a supercharger and standard pulley running 7.5psi boost with stock ecu, and slightly modded auto, hopefully pushing for approx 600hp.
This is all simple modifications and has been done and proven on several other examples.
Then comes a pulley and snout upgrade, 12psi pushing for 800hp and a 17psi pulley looking for 1000+hp.
With these upgrades, im pushing the abilities of the original equipment and need ideas as to what is required on the following....

Gearbox, do i stick with the A340 and spend the $3000 on an upgrade or go modified C4 or a Manual gearbox as in an R154 toyota box. I originally wanted the A340 due to the overdrive as this will still be a daily driver.

If i change to another gearbox, i'd also have to change the ecu to a complete control system rather than a piggyback link/std ecu system

Diff, change to a 9" or keep with the disc brake borgy, by changing to 31 spline moser axles and a 31 spline lsd in the borgy, costs approx 1500 and still coping with 900+rwhp.

1000hp from a ford barra is possible and has been done, but at a cost of 25-30Grand, i'm hoping to get my 1000hp daily driver for an extra $10G ontop of what has been already spent to get the car registered on the road.

All comments and input greatly appreciated.

Stick with the A340, and do the upgrade, for ease of things.

Keep the borgy, they are tuff little suckers. I will send you blueprints for a mods to strengthen them totally. That with your 31 spline mosers and it would be near bulletproof.

Go for it Dave...... bring on DA BOOST !!!!!!!

1000hp is a big ask from a 4L V8 even if they are over engineered to start with.

I assume you have found this forum http://www.v-eight.com/

If you haven't then do some research there.

I think your goal of 1000hp at 17 psi is a bit ambitious unless you are expecting some seriously efficient blower to be pushing the air in there.

So far my 4.1L engine is making around 750 rwhp and that is using a decent sized turbo and 24 psi boost.  THe engine is by no means inefficient either, with a cylinder head flowing 380 hp atmo and a huge cam.

Cams will be an expensive exercise and something you will need to do if you want the engine to survive.  You will need to add some overlap and close the inlet valve a lot later or it will just be too hard on the engine.

You may also have to do some homework on runner lengths, the runners look very short on that manifold.

You can stick with the A340, guys like Shane Crighton and Sean Gannon have used them successfully behind big power engine.  Both of them had boxes built by Mike at MV automatics who now has a spragless second gear and transbrake options.

The good old C4 will do the job fine also but will still cost you about $3000 by the time you have it built to take 1000hp.  I built mine myself and it cost me over $2000 in parts alone.  THe converter will be another $1000 from TCE and the shifter will be $300 etc.  It all adds up.

Anyway that link above has a forum with some seriously in depth discussion about what can be achieved from the 1UZ.

Oh if you are considering keeping the BW diff there are a few things you need to do.

31 spline moser axles is a good start.  Precision Differentials I think it is down in Victoria do a rear cover with a girdle buit into it.  The girdle pushes on the back of teh carrier bearing caps to stop them breaking out.  Big HP Vl's are getting away with BW diffs this way.

You will probably need a full spool for it as well though.  The stock LSD won;t be up to the power you are talking about.

Hi Mark,
I have seen the website before, i use many different websites regarding the 1uzfe including, lextreme.com, soarercentral.com, and a couple orher information sites.
1000hp is ambitious, and wont be reached immediately, will prolly take a couple different stages, final plan would be to swap to a more efficient whipple blower.

At the moment i just need to get the car on the road before i can worry about its progress.
Its a serious decision to progress as far as 1000hp, cause cant really see it being a road car after that, but thats a decision we all make at some time or other. With your 750rwhp, thats getting close to the 900-1000hp at the flywheel, an awesome effort for any old taxi motor. i realize this has been a progression and doesnt happen over night, but with time and several mistakes along the way, i hope to get some serious horsepower also.

Heres a link to the parts i plan to use. They include the 1200hp complete rebuild kits, 550cc injectors, cams and other associated parts required for the heads. I was hoping to get the cams and head parts locally from several of the suppliers we have here in Australia.

Maybe its a dream or just a wasted exercise but who knows....

Yeah whipple supercharger sounds like the go, or at least something screw type.

The blower kit on that website link was a centrifugal blower though.

My engine is making 750 flywheel hp, 630 rwhp, which is a fair way off 1000hp.  The next engine might get up around 1000hp.

Should be interesting to see it go even with the the first stage of blower setup.  I found my car has not gone much quicker from when it ran 16.5 psi boost at the mini jam and ran a 9.58 @ 139 mph.  Screwing it up to 24 psi now and it has run 9.27 @ 145 mph.

The key is in the setup of the rear end.  Getting soem decent slicks under and running a custom cromoly swaybay will help make it hook up.
