Yep, I used to have a 2lt corty. Cough cough.....

Quickpro motorsport in Adelaide if they still exist, they are expensive but they do sell COSWORTH DOHC heads to suit the pinto block. They work a treat.... TRUST ME..... I paid about $1800 from memory for a complete head, inc s/h BD10 cams. (BD10 are what the Moffat ford seirra won bathurst with).

Good luck dude. I also hope to have a car at the nats next year.

I reckon it is a tough ask to make an NA single overhead cam engine sompatitive against the late model Honda and Nissan stuff with twin cam, big valves and huge aftermarket range of parts.

If the engine was turbo that would be different.

You also have the issue of being rear wheel drive.  A lot of the 4 cyl cars are front wheel drive so they have a lot less drive train losses which are quite significant in a 200 to 300 hp range.

I have a few mates racing circuit cars with atmo 4cyl engines.  one of them had an Escort the other a 2L SOHC datson L series engine.  They spent years developing the old OHC engines and in the last few years guys have been turning up with fairly stock VTEC Hondas with nothing but bolt on manifolds, custom exhaust and engine management and they are leaving the old Escort and Datto behind!

A lot of these engines are not even ported, and have never been cracked open!

You only need to look at the size of the ports on them to see they have a huge advantage.
