Need to get an early falcon xe etc as later will require an axle change as they are 28 spline instead of the cortinas and early falcons 25 spline.

A good one would be Fairlane ZK/ZL they are all lsd. I thought upto early EB were 25 spline.

this was originally posted by p100:

Quote
2.92 = All TE 6 cyl
3.5 = TE 4cyl auto
3.7 = TE 4cyl manual
3.89 = Mk3 (TC/TD) 2 door GT (dunno about other Mk3's)
4.11 wouldnt of been cortina.. thats from a Nissan Pintara usually.

commodores and stuff all use the Borg Warner 78 series housing
if your diff is a 2.77 then its impossible to go to a different ratio,

if u got a 2.92/3.5/3.7 or whatever.. u can put any center in form any other borg warner 78 series housing

cortina is 25 spline standard. so theyres a small list of 25 spline doners
VK series 2 (3.23:!)
VL (none turbo and not a V8 as theyre 28 spline) (3.45:1)
XE/XF Falcons/fairmonts etc. they had 3.23 LSD in certain models.
EA Fairmont Ghia = 3.23 LSD (4 spd auto versions)

if u wanan goto a 28 spline center.. like VN Comodore --> VP or the EB falcons on wards youd need to get custom axles made up.. or shorten the ones off the doner diff.. and change stud pattern on them back to 4x108..

or get the newer series diff (disc Brakes).. and get it shortened and get the mounts from a cortina weleded onto that diff... but this means also upgrading ur master cyl to support all wheel discs.

easiest thing is swap within the 25 spline housings... otherwise it will cost u big $$

Is it a simple job? I have replaced diff centres in escorts in the past and they appear to have the centre attached to the housing. Is replacing these diffs different to the escorts?

PS Thank you too everyone who is helping ,me on this

no nothing like an escort. like you said the escort centres are a complete unit. on the cortinas the front housing is integral of the whole unit. removing and setting up a new pinion is a completely different procedure.
