Getting more grunt

I currently have built and race a tf cortina in mud - this is a rally style racing though with big mud pits that you need to get through. i have raised the vehicle and put in a toyota hiace leaf spring diff with 4.86 gears. none of which is street leagal as car will never be registered, but have found very beneficial. also i am running a 4spd single rail gbox. My current problem is power to the back wheels. the motor i currently have is a 4.1 xflow with a cast head, this motor is standard, i have a redline inlet manifold with a 350 holley on it. i have had an electronic distributer built for it custum made. i currently race against v8's mostly mostorus 351's and i am trouble keeping up. I have no problems off the line but at the tail end of second gear i run out of legs and in the mud i run out of legs. i need suggestions to get this car some more power in order to shake these 8's - i can not go to turbo or supercharger as the motor needs to be sealed against water and mud and putting these on would make it very difficult. can i please get guided into turning my average corty into a mud slaying beast? please note that bottom end is crucial as on the track you rarely get out of third gear.

cheers

Are you allowed to go alloy head? That will give you an immediate boost.

Alloy head would be good but then your manifold won't bolt up. I would go headers and a camshaft upgrade, nothing huge just one suited for towing as these are designed for low end torque.

one of those toyota supercharges with some kind of snorkle attached poping out through the bonet would look cool.  If not shave the head to get more comp and run some octane booster on top of 98 petrol
