Currently working up a TE Cortina 6 with view to replicating 1979 Works Around Australia TE.  Does anyone have or can steer me in the right direction to obtain the specs of these cars.

G'day, my recollection of these jiggers were that they ran XD rear axles with disks, but used the Cortina brackets on the axel. Ratio? Not sure. Front brakes were XD to even up the stud pattern. Groung clearance was raised to about 7 inched under the xmember.

Wheels? Maybe Minilites.

Tank was I think XD size mounte in the boot with one spare. Second spare and tools were on the rear passenger area with the third crewman.

I vaguely recall Cibie Biodes (7" round) replacing the headlights and either Oscars and/or Super Oscars for night work.

Front and rear bumpers were perforated alloy mounted on quick release fasteners. These could also be used to de-bog the var. I think they uses Recaros or Scheel seats inside. The one in the rear was placed diagonally across the rear passenger area so the third crew member could sleep???(????).  I think there were foot steps on the rear of the body with grabhandles on the boot, again for de-bogging.

I think the motor was nothing radical, just extractors and a Holley 350(???) or a Weber off the Capri GT3000. I think they were dual 40mm chokes.

A Halda twinmaster was used for the nav.

Thats all I can remember at present (too many hits to the head). I'll check in the shed sometime and see it I have anything else. Can't say when though 'cause I have to wade through 1.3  cu metres of paperwork, books and magazines.

Thanks for the welcome Bucster.

Royster, appreciate your response.  Anything you might be able to locate on the vehicle specs would be a big help, including any body mods - bolt on mudguard flares.

Cheers

G'day,
I know they has fibreglass flairs(because of the XD's track at the rear) but I don't know if they came from the UK or not.  I vaguely remember similar flairs featured on a Mk4 (TE) in the UK's "Hot Car".  It may pay to check with Ford Special Vehicles or the PR dept. to see if there is anyone still alive who worked on these jiggers or if there is any documentation about.

Also, check with the magazines, they may have something. i don't know if it was Wheels or Modern Motor who ran the original article.  Explain what you want to do and I would think they'd try to help.

Try writing to Colin Bond.

This issue of aussie muscle car mag has a write up.
I will have to find issue 47 to read first part.
issue 48 below
DIRTY MUSCLE
Although the amazing 1-2-3 result for Holden’s Commodore team in the 1979 Repco Round Australia Trial has been well documented, Ford’s ill-fated attempt to win the event has been largely ignored - until now. In this second and final chapter, we explain how the whole Ford attack literally fell apart, after team leader Bond had led the field by 10 minutes into Perth.

Heading out to get a copy, I'm a bit behind in the magazines... fixing the rust in the arches of my 'dang escort, speaking of which, one of Bonds RS1800 escorts went up for sale a couple of years ago, always wanted to build a southern cross RS1800 replica, incedently that car failed too works fords had no luck in Australian rally. Did Paulntash ever get that project underway?......
