Hi from Wellington
« on: October 26, 2009, 01:09:24 PM »

Hi All,
Just a quick message to introduce myself.

Name's Blair and I'm a panelbeater by trade but work in the office now :)
The Cortina I just scored was a resto project started by a couple of the guys at work a couple of years back. It's a TE 6 and they were a relatively rare car over here. Most people didn't know that Ford made a straight 6 Cortina, but a couple of mates had them when we were younger and I recall them as being quick and fun untill you came to a bend....

This one is not a minter. It's been sitting in storage in my garage for a year or so rubbed down ready for painting. I took the covers off it yesterday and got a bit teary when I saw the surface rust appearing all over it where the primer had been rubbed through.

Needless to say, out came the jumper leads and after a few squirts of engine start it fired up and ran sweet! That was all the motivation I needed to get on the phone and convince them to sell it ($1k nz). It would have been a shame for it to sit there and crap out after all the work that had gone into it. I have heaps of photos at work of the resto side of it that I'll post over the next few days. It truly was a rusty pig and ended up a labour of love for a couple of guys that have now totally lost interest in it.

There is a donor car that comes with it that is still a daily driver, albeit a 1.6L, but the interior from the 6 is pretty munted and half missing from what I can tell.

That brings me to a question regarding the interior - From looking at what is left on there at present, the interior handles appear bigger and more Falcon like? I don't see there being a problem swapping the trims and door internals if necessary, but was curious as to any other subtle changes that there are between these and the 4 cylinder models other than the gauges?

Anyone else here from the Wellington region that may be able to give advice or help out with parts etc?... would be nice to meet other local owners.

Cheers, and here's a link to look at some pics of it as it sits now :)

With my limited experience, I don't think there are any differences in the interiors between 4 and 6 cyl. Only differences in interior may be between GL and Ghia. I think that's why the gauges could be different.

Ghia interior is different to GL and so are the gauges, everything  is
interchangeble anyway.

Nice project, specially in NZ where TE is very rare.
In Argentina I never saw a MK4!!! I really want one for me. I'm searching one for years!!
