How are ya''s all! I have a fuel injected 250 out of an xf s pak..its a 2 owner un thrashed motor and also has lpg. I will be chasing down a corty next month and am looking forward to building a respectable machine.. My question to you knowledgable people out there is.. When I put it in a corty would I be better off keeping the injection set up, buying a better computer, maby turbo etc. Or go natuarally asperated??? I have heard LPG can be tuned in nicely to gain more power with fuel injection as its a higher octain and cheaper. What I basically want to know is, which one will get me more power with less cost? Natuaral or fuel injection? Thanks..

HI there, I think you should go with the fuel injection option.  For the following reasons:
1/ once set up correctly, has lower operating costs,
2/ a decent auto electrician should be able to transplant the efi loom into your car for under $700
3/ large array of aftermarket ECU''s out there, Wolf3d, Motec M48(expensive), Microtec, Haltech, Autronic(good put has to many extra gadgets, that are not requires). Some of these range from $800 - 2500, depending on extras and usually get fitted for free by the seller.
4/ setting it up for LPG is not too complicted, either way.
5/ If you decide to go forced induction down the track, its only a dyno, and remap to get you out of trouble. (then pending power output; comes larger injectors, pumps, and the games begin LOL)

Speak to your local mechanic before you commit to either one, as they will advise you of the costs involved.

All the best

Thanks for that mate! Your a ledgend! Im not looking for a ten second machine but just something to get both wheels spinnin, you know what I mean? I will go the fuel injection..Maby rockers, some porting and a nos kit..that should do the trick..?? lol I have a 4 speed gearbox out of a falcon as well ( same place the motor is from) So the ratios should help give a te tf corty a nice push as well.. Cheers!

Hey,
Using a Falcon 4 or 5 speed box, although does fit into a cortina, the gearstick is approx 100mm closer towards the handbrake lever, and if not done properly becomes a right pain in the ass.

Thanks for that mate, I had heard it was a bit longer, but not 100 mm, Do you have any suggestions on the correct method for making it fit?? Cheers..

Hi,
Most people now change from the 4 speed box to a T5 5speed from the falcon for the extra gear and lower revs on the highway.
The gearstick is still approx 100mm or (slightly less) south and involves cutting through the trans tunnel rib, which is a strength point in the car. This is sorta ok to do as long as you re-strengthen around the cut area. I have not done it myself but many others have.
Have heard different reports, some say the gearstick touches the handbrake lever in 4th, others have modified the gearstick to clear. Nobody ever said they moved the handbrake or shortened the handbrake lever.
Either way id be considering a 5speed if you have to muck around the same.

I see.. Thanks mate. The 4 speed will do me fine, no point wasting a good box! I will change to a 5 speed though if this one gets destroyed by my eager gear changes lol

T5 Shifter Position
« Reply #8 on: November 16, 2007, 12:05:31 AM »

Hey guys,

If anyone has modified their T5 shifter to fit through the floor in the spot that God intended, I would be really interested to learn how you did this, as I am currently facing this dilemma.

Cheers

u cut thru the floor where the shifter comes thru which means cutting into the front seat chassis rail. i boxed up the rail where i cut thru it.  i used the standard shifter and made my own gearstick which comes forward before it comes up which cured my handbrake clearance issues. u also have to modify the console. if u still find the handbrake handle is fouling the shifter then redrill the handbrake mounting holes further back or on an angle.

this is how mine sits with only a modified console and gearstick.
