CORTINA BONNET GAS STRUTS
« on: December 08, 2010, 09:51:21 PM »

DEAR FORDCORTINA USERS

I have a 1978 TE Cortina and was wondering if ANYBODY has fitted gas struts to the bonnet of the cortina and got a good leverage and space of engine bay.

I have tried for hours but nothing seems to work.

If ANYONE has done this, could you please talk to me and discuss how to do it properly. If you have photos could you please email them too.

Regards,

Cortinajoe.

Hey Cortina Joe,

I asked this question a few years ago and I was told that a certain Cortina person who resides in Canberra (his name is not to be spoken) lol used the boot hinges of a mazda 121 bubble, I never checked it out but apparently works and looks good. His car has been a few magazines over the years so either check it out or go to the wreckers and see what you think.

You'll have to post up some pics, we like pics.  8)

Good luck with it

Andrew

yeah that sounds familiar but i think it may've only been talk. i know he used to take the struts on or off depending if he wanted the bonnethalf open or all the way back.

i think for that reason it might be tricky to get a bonnet strut to work on both positions.

if your in Melbourne take a drive down to struts Australia in laverton north corner of Fitzgerald road and cherry lane

they should be able to hook you up they have hundreds of different struts and different brackets for mounting them so there will be something that will work

im sure there's similar company's in other states

Yes it can be done, I have done it on my TE Cortina BBQ.  You do need to be carefull what struts you use, I got new ones for a ED Falcon and they didnt work, not enough weight in the bonnet.  Ended up taking the struts of my AU Falcon and using them, and put the new ones on the AU.  Will post some pics of it soon.
