Firewall is welded in, Minor patching needs doing still, but nearly to the point where motor goes in to stay.

Gave the firewall a bit more of a grind, then thought fuck it... leave it for later. So then I gave it a hit with primer to prevent rust and left it at that for now...

Also got the radiator support panel bent up and welded in, drilled some holes for the locators on the VB Commodore radiator and hey presto!

And sitting in there

Will sort the top out on monday...

The engineer unfortunately cut the tailshaft too short, so I have to find a tailshaft from another cortina or find one with the same OD tube. It looks like the finishing date is pushed further away. :(

I dug around in the old section of the wreckers shed and managed to find another tailshaft. Lucky!!

I put some things together to see if it all fit, and when I whacked the turbo on I thought, oh crap- clearance issues with the bonnet....

But no!!

Freaking BOOYA!!! LOL

That's fantastic!

I had fears of scrolling down the page and seeing a turbo poking through the bonnet  :( I like this way much better, or worse case putting a low line scoop on it.

Definitley getting there now

PM sent, and thanks for the offer, Pcman. Luckily I had one stashed at the bottom of a pile of tailshafts!!

You guys wanted to know how I tackled the sump, I have a few pics of it partially tacked up, the engine will have to come out again to seal it all up, also went a bit lower than I would like to, but this was necessary to make up for the limited room and gearbox trusses/exhaust etc...

Oil pickup extension

And if you're wondering, I vac tested the setup and there are no leaks. :D

Bracing to prevent the weight of the longer pickup from snapping the oil pump off (the weight of the oil in it would make it pretty heavy and a bump would likely at least crack the alloy pump)

As I said it's only tacked in, gotta clean it up and weld it sealed.

Edit: My background is- grew up in my dads mechanics business, got into fabrication of steel and plastics in my early 20's (different jobs).
