boss 347 TD cortina groundup re-build
« on: April 15, 2011, 07:22:28 PM »

hi

im in the first 3 months of my interpretation of how cortinas should of been built.
im using methods that others have come up with and alot i have thought of and wish to share.(im open and welcome comments and advice)

the shell is still in a raw form atm but is coming together nicely so far.

i have decided to start on the engine bay and work my way back.
so far i have done the engine mount which is a crude cmrs kit,
reinforced the chassie rails and made the gearbox cross member.
modified a falcon xd booster and falcon hyd clutch master cylinder

the booster was easier than i first thought, the bottom left hole lines up with the bottom stud on the xd booster then i just made up some gussets and bobs ya uncle

the clutch master cylinder i decided to recess in the firewall to give a better angle to the pedal, i done this by cutting a picese of 75mmX20 rhs, dose the job and looks ok i think

today i started and finished the passenger side rear wheel tub.
i reused the same tub. I just cut and moved it and ran a piece in the void,
not the most comfortable place to weld but a bit of time and a few jd's and i managed to do it,

then began the task of redesigning the brake booster bracket to fit the master cylinder under the bonnet.
i have not finished it but i have played with a few idea's shouldn't be too hard to rectify.

ill pick up on this later.

here is the 302 boss im putting in..

scat 347 steel crank and H-beam rods

scored this housing when i brought a 2L td xle for $400. old mate just chucked it in

this is the 2L XLE

I also picked up a 6cyl TC XLE for $350.. and u wouldn't belive it i got another 9"+ housing with that one. it was out of an F-100 but i might get it mad to suit the corty

anyone who would like to buy a 250 with auto box or a 2L with auto let me know they both run and i can start them for you.

pulled my finger out yesterday and started on the driver side wheel tub 5 hours and a pack of smokes later....

just so there was no risk of the rails deforming i cut 2 sections out and seem welded the floorpan to the rail, this give u a better patform to weld to later also.

all done bar a little tidy up with a flap disc and some primer.

now the tubs are done ill move back into the engine bay to finish off the brake booster mount,

then from there ill work on my new sand blaster im building
(ill post a how to if anyone is keen?)

to start cleaning up for all the seem welding and supports that ill put in the back end.

been a while since my last update,
but have not had alot of progress since then, the tubs are done and fit a 10.5" with ease got a 9" sorted just need to order axle's and have the limo rebuilt 31 spline,
I also got my hands on a set of xc coupe rear discs and callipers off a mate,

I done a bit of panel beating on the front passenger guard that came up petty good considering i was going to scrap it, lol

i got a new set of brakes for the corty ...god bless ebay lol, got it all for $500 not bad i think, hope it fits as good as it looks,

OH HELL YES!!!!! love the tunnel rammed cortinas, I will hopefully start mine this year but TF with rammed clevo, I'm glad you said that the 10.5's fit in the tubs moved to the chassis rail, I have waved the measuring stick around mine and I thought it would fit but glad you confirmed it for me, your doing a great job, looks good.
Cheers
